Carnivale rides and maintainence

I'm reminded of when the fun fair was in town. Many nights I enjoyed just watching the rides run and spin around- and look at the lights.
Speaking of the lights - I did find it disturbing that one of the rides in particular had a lot of it's lights burned out. It was the "zipper" ride that spins people upside down and goes high up in the air. In other words - even in my younger more daring days - I didn't go on that thing. Too scary. Too much to risk.
So ironically - I noticed that a lot of the lights on this zipper ride were burned out. Made me ponder a few things.
With the money the operator takes in off the ride, wouldn't it be nice to put a little money back into it?
Also, if the lights are burned out would you feel as safe riding on it?
Here is a video of a zipper ride. This video is not mine, it was found on YouTube. This one appears to have all of it's lights. :-)

To me it does not sound like a fun ride. Does the Renaissance Fair come your way? I used to love to go to that.

@Hannihar SO much fun! I really like the area, too. Though - for the past couple of years there has been talk of moving it. Someone wants that land for the gravel that's under it. Oh no.

Me either!
Oh yes, they still have the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee. I love it there! :-D

You would think they would have to fix them, but I don't think it's a big deal if they don't or that it makes it feel more unsafe. I know many, who would prefer less lights on the rides.. and ive been in a indoor scrambler ride, where there was very little light, along with on two glow in the dark coasters.
I have only been on the zipper once, and I hated it. took me years of going to the fairs / carnivals to go on one. and when I did my anxiety went very high. screamed and cried the whole ride and yelled at the guy working it to stop it but of course he couldn't hear with all the carnival noise .

@FayeHazel I loved the indoor rides, but was of course scared too. but that's just my fear of falling , or hitting something lol. plus anxiety from all of that.
there are no seatbelts or anything to hold on to for the zipper. just the cage door, and so as the ride went, my butt kept coming off the seat and I thought when it leaned forward I was going to fall out. NEVER AGAIN.

I commend you on trying one in the first place. I don't think I would do much better than you did if I were to try. No thank you.
Indoor amusement rides:? Cool idea.

Although I love going to fairs and carnivals and living life on the dangerous side, I'm pretty sure most of those rides aren't exactly the safest things in the world. I know they're inspected each time at the beginning of the fair, but I'm willing to bet they're not maintained very well. Burned out light bulbs may only be the tip of the iceberg for what potentially could be wrong with all those rides.
{and yet I still ride them}

@FayeHazel I have been on the Zipper. It's a crazy fun ride. I think I've been on every possible fair or carnival ride ever made. I like to live life dangerously! lol

Ah, it's reassuring to know that they check them at the start anyway. Though like you say, that's what I thought too. If they can't be troubled to change some lights bulbs, are they making other, more costly repairs?
Have you ever been on the zipper

@FayeHazel I'm sure they keep it well maintained, just don't see the lights as something they need to take care of immediately.

@just4him True, that's probably it. I would rather they fix the big things

Oh that is sad. I imagine things could go wrong easily with those rides :(

@FayeHazel The new attendant had had very little training and was told nothing about an emergency 'stop' button except that no-one ever used it.

@JudyEv Oh dear. I would have thought that the emergency procedures would be among the first things covered.

Yes, I agree that ride is scary and most of us don't want to have a ride in that! regarding the lights , they may have got fused once the carnival started otherwise the organisers or owners takes care of these things as they are their bread and butter winners...this I am telling because as I have told that I used to give some Ventriloquism shows in carnival, I know the stories behind the curtain, as far a carnival is concerned! Thanks!

I agree with you. I think light bulbs would be an easy fix. What about other stuff?
