Rats!

I come down for coffee, Mom says " I saw a rat this morning, we need to get this place cleaned up so he doesn't have any place to hide." I'm not sure how she was planning that being a hoarder and all. Both her and dad. Not sure who is worse. All moms crap is filling the basement. If you so much as just touch a box she will go into full blown panic mode. If I were to go into that room and take out a little bit here and there and throw it out, she'd never know the difference. If I threw away every single thing, kept the boxes and put in a bunch of random things it wouln't matter. She is just happy to have a bunch of boxes filled with useless junk. Dad has kept his hoarding disguised so well, for so long that I only realized he had a problem in the last couple years. Now that I look back there were definitely signs of this all along that I just didn't recognize. Meanwhile not much actual cleaning took place. I swept floors, cleaned the bathroom, soaked and washed some linens, organized my closet and gave our lil puppers, Teddy Toelicker, a bath. image credit: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Giant_inflatable_rat#/media/File:Union-rat.jpg

Proper food storage would deprive the rodents of food. A cat might also help.

We generally keep our food put away because we live in a wooded area and get the occasional creepy crawly. The climate here in Georgia doesn't allow us to keep food out without spoiling. So he only had access to the dogs kibbles. Guess we have to put that away at night now. No cats. Got three people here that are severely allergic. Besides, the dogs might try to eat it

@cupkitties _My dogs seem to deter rats/mice from making our house their habitat.

@josie_ I think the rats here know our big dog, Gracie, is a big chicken. Mom says Teddy Toelicker would try to make friends with it

i have to do that, too, giving away or throwing away stuff secretly but it's just the tip of the iceberg. i use sticky paper for mice.

My dad set out rat bait. I wish we could simply repel them though. As disgusting as the critters are, I don't want them to suffer

I understand your situation. I have a roommate. Well, we do own the house together. Who is a hoarder. She was filled up 3 rooms and part of the basement with stuff.. Garbage really. That she never looks at. I mean the rooms haven't been able to get in in years. Its nuts.

Funny I am watching The witches wherein the kids were turned to rats by some witch. I do not think I can live with a lot of clutter

I wish. If I did, he might be like my friends cat who only sits and stares at the rodent
