Has Global Become Permanent Local?

Let me start off this conversation by saying that this is not a political topic but merely a measure of where man's moral compass is heading towards? I look forward to engaging with my fellow MyLot members on this rather sensitive topic. CASE IN POINT: In South Africa we experienced xenophobic attacks where, between 2000 and March 2008, at least 67 people died when ordinary South African citizens turned on our fellow African continental brothers and sisters. The world called it appalling and we were, if I remember correctly, chastised by just about every democratic country worldwide - in some cases - justifiably so - for acting at a slow pace to curb the then trend. In Italy / France / USA just about the same thing happens from 2015 to present and yet, this received very little mainstream media attention / world outraged as similar to what we experienced. QUESTION??? My question is not however based on the reaction of the rest of the world or failure thereof, but simply to ascertain "WHAT ARE THE REASONS BEHIND THE SUDDEN NATIONALISTIC WORLD MENTALITY?" How have we as human beings become so nationalized in our approach towards other human beings coming to our respective countries as either a means of survival or a new beginning? Lastly, what does it say about us as a global community if we cannot embrace all people of different origins and nationalities in their hour of need? The floor is open...
