Fading

Met that tradesman again a few hours ago! Three years ago, he was a happy chirpy young man, 30ish, very good looking, full of life, a very successful man in his field. Today, he just looked like a fading copy of his old self, worried & ordinary. Life with having a toddler and another in an elementary school must have been too tough for him and his wife. My classmates and I have been fading away too, re: our looks. Time has that special power of blowing away all cobwebs and everything else in its path. (While those toddlers in our life grow up into handsome youths .) Have your facial features changed a lot with time? For the better or worse? One of my grandma's sisters became much better looking with aging. She looked so striking in her later years with respect to her other used to be beautiful sisters.

The funny thing is, I think that trend happens with me too. I used to be insignificant among the females in my family. Now I am someone special .

I have not changed a lot, but we had no kids. I have no wrinkles, only my hair changed, from dark blond to mixed pepper and salt.

@YrNemo Some nuns always wear a veil, most do not. Most nuns that I have known have no wrinkles, I wonder if not wearing make up and messing up with face cream is the best solution after all.

I met a Roman Catholic sister (nun) in her late 80s once who looked so youthful, not a single wrinkle on her face. Her height got shrunk though. (Didn't see her hair since she was always wearing a veil.)

@LadyDuck You do have a point there, I didn't think of that (re: the face cream & aging). Someone tried to convince to use some aging cream when I was in my 40s. The idea was tempting, until I found the price for those tiny pots, about $100-200, each might last about a week.

One reason why cosmetics and cosmetic surgery is in such high demand. Stress can add wrinkles but I like to think it adds "character" to our face.

Hi Darcy. Beauty fades in time and many are afraid to lose that beauty that is why they do everything to keep it. But I like to age gracefully because with aging comes wisdom and experience.

The mother of one of my acquaintance looked so beautiful when she was in her 90s. I love all of her wrinkles. Wish I could take a pic of the lady.

@mlgen1037 I went searching for those photos of that lady, but so far, I can't remember where I kept them.

@YrNemo I would have loved to see her too. I think we should not be afraid of aging. Instead, embrace it all the more. A lot of people are so desperate to keep up with beauty.

It's true. Raising kids isn't easy. I don't have kids. My youngest brother has a daughter, she's turning two this year. Such an adorable little girl, smart, too. She must've gotten it from my side of the family, haha... Back to the topic. My brothers looks older than me. I don't think I looked good when I was young? and I don't think it ever changed? =D

Some men do look older with marriage if they are the responsible type. You look happy in your photo, and that counts more.

I used to be a skinny and ordinary looking scholar from a very young age. I do look better these days with respect to those young years, but definitely fading compared to me in my 40s.

@allknowing As my children (many years ago) consoled me, 'mom, it is a good cushion for us to lean on...'

I have so many things to say about the physical features. One thing for sure, most of my batchmates in high school look old after getting married. Thus, I need to enjoy my singlehood.

@YrNemo I am not generalizing but it does happen commonly in men. It can also happen to women, too.

You could be right there re: some men get older after getting married . (If they are the Peter Pan type, their wives would be the ones who look older.)

Our experience will leave a mark on our faces. A happy person will show it on his face. A sad person is the same.

I looked vague and blank in my latest passport photo. The camera must have stripped away all my happiness and unhappiness. (I am not impressed with that photo at all!)

The main purpose in life is to be happy (while not affecting others). If we could do that then all is good .

@Hannihar It is terrific not to look too different with time. I keep seeing my mother's 30 yrs ago face looking back at me in the mirror. I laughingly told her this and she was very amused.

mother thinks another factor is if you have a bony, angular face versus a round or oval plump face where the features aren't sharp or pronounced. .

You could be right. Most people with round faces seem to look younger than those with bony or angular faces.

Some women look much better (more attractive) after giving birth, some simply look better when put on some needed weight.
