How do you learn to cook?

Do you like to follow the cooking videos or the recipes? I like to learn it from the recipes in words with some photos. Since I can read it again if I am not clear to a certain step. I hardly want to learn it from a cooking video because it spends me longer time. Reading words is faster and I like that.

Iprefer to read a recipe, but sometimes I have a look at the video to see how cooks proceed to decorate cakes.

Yes, it is better to learn how to decorate cakes by watching a video. I haven't reached to that level yet

I use recipes. If I find something on the net that I like I print it out or write it out. I need to be able to see the instructions.

Now I also print my successful recipes and paste them on the fridge. It is easier for me to follow it when I want to cook something.

I learned how to cook when I was around 10 to 12 years old and I learned from my mother. Now, I know most dishes that I usually cook by heart. I like experimenting and tweaking recipes too. I prefer to watch cooking videos than reading recipes. I often save video recipes.

I couldn't agree more. Following the recipes in book/online is much easier compared to cooking videos. Just like you, I rely heavily on cooking books/blogs. It's easier to follow and you can go back in a snap if you missed something (ingredients, instructions, etc) But how I wish I have an innate talent in cooking just like my late grandmother. She is the best cook. She can make delicious meals out of scratch.

I don't mind either, but I want the recipe written down in either case! Like you said, I don't want to rewind and try and figure out what was said. So its easier for me to watch a video, write it down... see what needs to be done, know what needs to be done.. then go do that with my paper directions (and hope it actually comes out like the video showed!)!
