You lose weight in the kitchen. You get strong in the gym.

That is what I was told over and over again at the gym when I was doing my 2 6-week Transformation challenges. It really is true too. You can work out all you want, but it really is what you do (or don't) put into your mouth that determines the number on the scale and the fit of your pants. I've been a little bit overboard the past 2 weeks that I have been off from work. Pasta has made an appearance more often than usual. I bought bread today. I haven't been to the gym much. Cocktails? Hell yeah. Instead of beating myself up about it, I've just decided to consider it as a well-deserved vacation after 10 months of working a stressful job. I'll get back at it on Monday. I know what to do. I know what I CAN do. The one big thing that I learned during the challenges, though, is that it is all about what you eat. You really need to be conscious about what you consume. For me, carbs are something that I have to limit to days that I work out. Pasta has to be a once or twice a month treat. Lots of green vegetables. I have 2 eggs for breakfast instead of 3. I don't eat much fruit because that is just sugar and calories that I don't really need. Water is super important too. Not only do you need to be hydrated, but it helps you to feel full too. So, this weekend will be my last hurrah of being naughty. I may or may not get up in the morning for Strongman Saturday. I WILL be back at it on Monday morning though.

I think it has to be a combination of exercise and diet.

I definitely agree. When you build muscle, you burn more calories PLUS you look better. My psychiatrist always weighs me and he NEVER starts the weight at 200 pounds. He said last time "you don't look like you weigh anything like that!"
