The last place we visited in St. Petersburg was the Yusupov Palace also known as the Moika palace. It is beside the river Moika, The palace was very grand it even has its own ornate theatre inside which you enter via a staircase that can seat around 60 people. The palace had been turned into a museum and remained mostly intact after the revolution. There is much art work and it is beautifully preserved. This is where the mystic priest Rasputin was murdered. In a small ornate cellar room he was led down and plied with poison wine. He was shot here and thought to be dead but in fact he was still alive. This giant of a man survived and crawled out into the courtyard. Once they discovered that he was gone they went out and shot him further. He was rolled up in a carpet and dumped into the river! The photo is of the chandelier on the stair way. It was massive. I would hate to have to clean that one! We have one in our dining room and living room and that is a chore I detest as it takes so long!

Wow, what a beautiful chandelier, I love looking at these beauties but am always thankful I don't have to clean one. Mom had a small one in her small dining area which was a witch to try to clean, she finally got rid of it, thankfully.

I think you should do that @garymarsh6 it was the tediousness of trying to clean the thing that convinced mom to get rid of it. There are some really beautiful lighting ideas that would be much easier to clean than a chandelier .... of course you could also tell your wife that if she wants to keep it she should use HER money to hire someone to clean it.

Well done to your mother we have two in our house and I keep trying to persuade my wife to get rid of them but she won't. Perhaps it is time I told her well you want to keep it...........You clean it!

Rasputin was an incredibly strong man, it took several trials before they were able to kill him. I agree about cleaning those chandeliers, this is why I am not planning to bring home those in the apartment of my mother.

They are a right pain I can tell you! I would never ever have them again! Taking it all apart and washing drying and reassembling them again! As interesting as watching paint dry!

@garymarsh6 I fully agree, I cleaned those of my mom last Autumn and it's not something I intend to do again.

A simple room with simple decorations lol! You actually enter the room where Rasputin was killed?

Yes it was a cellar room very nicely decorated so he was not aware of what was going on!
