John had a friend and a mentor named Tony Smithers, who he used to ring up over the phone to chew matters over with him, about certain experiences that he had had, and also about certain problems that he was currently experiencing within his life too. And so, John rang Tony one night, and he asked him why he, Tony, was having so much troubling obtaining employment. Tony said to John, “Well John, I am old like you, and you need to hear this from a younger fresher perspective. I will let you talk to my daughter, Ronella, for a while.” Tony put Ronella on the phone then. “Hi John”, she said. “Sometimes, the rational approach is the wrong approach. You need to think irrationally, or outside of the staidness of rationality.” “It’s not what you think about things sometimes what works. It’s more about how you feel. Trust comes from feeling, not from thinking.” “The hum of life, requires you to hum your own tune, within the song, not to try to play the tune, with somebody else’s hum inside of you.” “The victim must become the hero.” John said thanks to Ronella, as he wondered how he could finally become a hero in his own life, at 64 years of age. Then he put the phone down, and he realised that he already was such. Recently, he had written a book of his own poems, and he even had had it published, but he was too shy to promote it very much. He had only sold one copy to his brother. The very next day though, John went down to his local bookshop, and he asked them if he could put one of his books, in their window. They sold like hotcakes, and John, became at last the hero of his own life. The right person can always help us like this, when we are ready to receive such help No one person can know it all, or be perfect in every aspect of life, can they? If we ask a guide for advice, they can only guide us in areas that they themselves know about, and not in other areas outside of their own knowledgeable experienced wisdom pool. Everyone has access to all knowledge, but wisdom is built on top of knowledge, and anchored into experienced insights within you through your own experiences with love. The name of John's book of poetry was: "Love comes of Age in you, when you let it not age in yourself." Photo Credit: The photo used here was freely sourced from the free media site: pixabay.com. Very wise and neat advice and story of John. I actually saw someone do that. I was like that is pretty cool that store owner allowed him too and him brave enough to ask.

Yes, when you decide to respond to life, often, life then responds to you. I have heard of people changing their life around at an advanced age too. There was one man in our local church, who became a priest in his sixties.

@innertalks Indeed, just need a passion and a purpose in life and it can take you far depending what it is. I do not care what new science says. Why else live if you cannot live life the way you want to live life as long as it is not hurting others.

@crossbones27 Yes, thanks, I completely agree with that sentiment. We need to be ourselves, following our own purpose, to find any real happiness, and satisfaction, and meaning in our lives.

Nice story, one need to ask, knock at doors, rather than wait for fortune to smile. I tend to be happy and contented unless really pushed to venture out of comfort zones. I like the name of John's book of poetry; better not to rest on our laurels and allow time to take its course which can prove longer and more arduous than we imagined - siva

Yes, I like the name of John too, and I like to use it in my stories. I tend to stay in my comfort zones too, but every so often, I realise an opportunity is there and something deep within me pulls me to it, out from my comfort zone, at those times.

@Shiva49 I was thinking that you might have meant something else, as it did seem a bit unclear to me what you meant. I just went with the flow of your response though. I do not like to rock anybody's boats either, these days either.

@innertalks Thanks Steve, what I had in mind was, I like the name of John's book of poetry. Now I have corrected my earlier response. I am more circumspect now as I do not want to rock the boat. However, when I have to, then I try to make the best use of them and enjoy such moments - siva

John's book seems like an inspiring, passionate, thoughtful book. Every page is written in hopeful wishful thinking words of wisdom and comfort for potential readers.
