Finally visited Roosevelt Island (NYC)

I've been living in NYC since 1992. This Thursday, for the first time since moving here, I finally visited Roosevelt Island. The island is located on the East River between the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens, though it is part of Manhattan. If you want to get there you can do so by subway, car or local bus via the Roosevelt Island Bridge that goes from Queens to the island, or the Roosevelt Island Tramway that runs between Roosevelt Island and Manhattan. Spending time at Roosevelt Island is a great way to pass the time and you can see everything on foot as the island is only about two miles long. You also get to walk along the water around the island, which gives you plenty of exercise, great views, and amazing photo opportunities, if you love taking photos. You will even find three interesting statues in the river. When you visit Roosevelt Island you will find lots of residential buildings there. I thought there were only a few buildings there but there are many. There is also a public school, Cornell-Tech university, a public library, a post office, a supermarket, a Starbucks, a pharmacy, some restaurants, and some other businesses. You will also find baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, a lighthouse, a community garden that is open to the public only on weekends, the Octagon, a few churches, the remains of what used to be a smallpox hospital, and the beautiful Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park with a large bust of FDR. If you are ever in the NYC area and are looking for something to do Roosevelt Island is a great place to visit. I am definitely going back there again.

@lovebuglena I brought up some pictures of it and it looks super crowded with buildings, like the rest of Manhattan.

@just4him In a way yes but it's only a 2 mile long island.

I think that so I sounds a very interesting island. I live in England however if I was in New York I would go there. The garden seems really lovely that is only opened at the weekends.

It sucks that it's only open on the weekends because I didn't get to see it. I guess that gives me a reason to go back there.

Yes, go there over one weekend. We wanted to go on the Little Yellow Train and it was cancelled because of no driver. We had to pay the expensive to go on a bus.

I would like to back to New York City. The catch is that my relatives who used to live there have either moved to another state or are deceased.

It was definitely a great time. Just wish we got there earlier than we did. But then again, it probably would have been even hotter.
