This deep pruned garlic vine is showing up again

We had deep pruned the garlic vine as it was quite invasive and had covered our curry leaf tree fully. The heavy rains that we are witnessing has brought it to life once again. No doubt it is a beautiful creeper but it has the tendency to kill trees that it climbs on.

It is beautiful, but it also attracts carpenter bees, that are dangerous if they dig nests in the wooden beams of the house.

We do not have wooden beams, Our house stands on concrete beams.

@LadyDuck We do it differently here. A mesh of rods and wire is prepared and placed on piy wood plank platform and that is loaded with concrete. Days later the wooden plants are removed the the roof cured by sprinkling water for several days. Some place tiles on top of the concrete but we have pasted marble pieces. So far my sloping roof has not leaked. Our house is now 27 years old.

@allknowing The roof is build on wooden beams. Our roof are not flat and they are covered with tiles. The only way to built those roof is to start with very solid wooden beams, that are covered with insulating material, on top of that tar paper is placed and then the tiles are placed to cover the whole roof. May be you have flat roofs, but we cannot, due to the snow.

Its very pretty. If you want to kill it you could try covering whats left after cutting it back. Block the sun and keep any suckers trimmed. That worked for me with a mulberry tree and they are hard to kill

I had done that once. I thought the deep pruning would contain it but it is just like any other invasive creepers.

@allknowing I tried just heavy cutting for a few years on that tree. Covering it good with landscape cloth seems to have worked. I see no signs of it peeking out. It was by the foundation of our house so had to go.

Love the color! We have shrubs that will be cut back in the fall for the same reason.

@allknowing Yes, they are. They are also getting way too high.

Yeah it is a nice crawler plant. But killing the trees where it climbs is not good. If I have that kind of plant then I prefer saving the life of my trees and maybe I will just make a wooden standy wall for the plant to climb there instead of the tree. But it will take space and a lot of effort to do so. Hmmmm.
