Greetings from hot, sunny Denver, Colorado, home of the red hot Colorado Rockies! We've been doing a lot of camping the last couple weeks, mainly in mountain areas with no cell service or Wi-Fi. Otherwise, we've been hanging out in the Denver Metro area (the metro area itself is huge. Denver, as a major city, isn't really all that big. It's the surrounding suburbs that make up the population and land mass. More people live in the suburb of Aurora than in Denver. Aurora, size-wise, is also bigger. In fact, it's the biggest city in the area,) revisiting old haunts, and generally chilling out on the beach at Cherry Creek Reservoir, located in Cherry Creek State Park, located in Aurora. A lot has changed since I last actually drove a motor vehicle up here. Many of my favorite bars are long gone, replaced by generic chain restaurants in the name of progress. Thirsty? There's a convenience store up the street. Except that now it's a pawn shop. Ok, there's a supermarket that I used to shop at just a couple blocks from here. But now it's a gym. And so on. Anyway, I woke up this morning and grooved on a few Rick James tunes. The photo is of our campsite at Goose Creek Campground, in the Pike National Forest. It is the only campground in the area that was untouched by the highly destructive Hayman Fire back in the early 2000's. Just a couple hundred feet up the road the burn damage is still highly visible. The fire was started by a Forest Ranger, who burned a breakup letter from her boyfriend in a fire ring and let it get out of control. I remember that miles and miles away, we in the Denver area found it difficult to breathe for about a week. I think that she's still in prison if I'm not mistaken.

@Starmaiden - Yes! The Rockies moved to New Jersey in 80's and became the Devil's. Our baseball team took over the name "Rockies" in 1993. In 1996, the Quebec Nordiques moved here and became the Colorado Avalanche. I would still love to experience a Canadiens game Montreal.

I was worried about Y`all. Its been a while since you have checked in at mylot. I am so glad to hear you are having some fun. I love Funk, Rick James is good. Once I requested a band to play funk, they looked at me like I was from Mars!

I once had tickets to see Rick James, but he got sick and had to cancel the tour. Had to trade in my tickets for Fleetwood Mac. They were good, but I would rather have seen Rick.

@andriaperry - I hate to say this, but they were at their best when Stevie was backstage changing. They rocked a little harder. I prefer the Bob Welch era best. Then the Peter Green era. Lindsay and Stevie era last.

Yes, but a lot of the changes suck. I had a lot of fun in some of those places.

Ah, yes, so true. I love that song. It's just getting old constantly pointing out "That used to be a whatever," and "Damn, they tore that down."

Here's a close-up of some of the destruction. We could actually see it from our campsite.

Best to get your camping in now before the snow flies and Avalanche take to the ice.

We actually do a little camping in the winter. The State Parks have good campsites, but are near impossible to get during the summer. So we use them in the winter.

Sometimes changes are not always for the better. Too bad about those old bars you haunted. Lots of memories long gone, a shame. Enjoy the camping. Like an adventure of "Going RV."
