I just finisihed reading "Welcome to the world, baby girl" by Fannie Flagg last night. Like all the books by Flagg that I have read this has southern aspects, but the majority of the book actually doesn't take place in the south. This book follows Dena, a woman who breaks through into the news industry. As she gets works higher up in the newscasting world she becomes ill and is diagnosed with ulcers. As part of her treatment her doctor insists she goes to a therapist. The therapist deicdes that hypnotherapy is what she needs and after months of seeing her hypnotherapist she actually starts to open up. While she is in therapy she finds out the root of her stress, and it isn't work related at all. All the hidden childhood trauma that Dena has kept buried for so long comes to the surface. Stuff Dena couldn't even remember comes to surface, and the reader right along with Dena learns long lost secrets of who she really is. There is definate sad parts of this story, if you are prone to tearing up during sad stories keep a box of kleenex nearby. This book actually has a bunch of twists that I didn't even expect. The way that Flagg wove the story was done very well. Jumping in between the twenties, forties and sixties and seventies she tells the story of not only Dena, but of her parents and grandparents. This books touches on different subjects and has a lot of history related parts too. I would give this book a 4.5/5.
