Short Story: Fred has a prophetic dream, about his own life, without recognising it as one

Fred reading an interesting book in his dreams

Fred had a weird dream last week, on a Monday night, where he was simply reading a book in a library, somewhere in the inner worlds. He knew that he was in some other world, by the surrounds, and the general feel of the place, and also by the way the other people in the library were all dressed. They were all wearing robes, of various colours, but which were all of the same length, down to a level, just above their ankles. The book that Fred was reading was a sort of a biography, or so it seemed to him. It was describing somebody’s life. It was going through all of the painful experiences, and hardships that this person had experienced in their life. This guy’s life seemed to be a very heavy burdensome one indeed. Fred got to the end chapter, and he read about how this man had died, at around 76 years of age from a heart attack, while he was cutting the lawn, around his house. The man, had by all intents, lived a pretty tough life. Fred thought about his own life. He too, was 76 right now too. The following Saturday, Fred was out cutting his own lawn, having forgotten all about his dream of the previous weekday, and he too suffered a heart attack, while pushing the mower, and he died, as it was a massive heart attack, and it took him away almost immediately so. Fred, like most of us, might also have done, had not recognised that he was reading about himself, and about his own life. If he had done so, maybe, he could have gone to the doctor, and had himself checked out. We all get warning dreams like this from time to time, in our lives. Have you ever had one? I like to record mine over the years, and to try to spot some patterns in them. I have noticed that many dream themes keep repeating themselves to me. I am often visiting a bookshop, myself, for example then. I am often in my Grandma's house, as well.

@Jessabuma Yes, they can be hard to remember. When you do notice a theme though, and then when it happens again, it becomes easier to remember those dreams then too. I will remember that I had another bookshop dream. It more sticks then in my mind.

Yes, they are often weird, but also fascinating too, I think, and I like them as they are nightly adventures, and entertaining for me too.

I have had funny dreams, sometimes, disconnected from my life and others, where, those I knew and have passed on appear or even those who are alive. Th problem is I forget most of my dreams the moment I get up, sort of erased automatically. It may resonate with past lives getting deleted the moment we set our foot here or before we are able to communicate with others about them as we are still babies. Some dreams are disconcerting though - hopefully, those trailers are not the real deal! siva

I overcame the forgetting bit, a long time ago, by having a clock with multiple alarms. I was not married then though, so it could bother no one but myself. Most times when the alarm woke me, and I was having a dream, I immediately wrote it down. Now, years later, I find this habit still in me, ingrained now. I tend to wake up automatically after each dream. I do not write it down immediately now though, as I am married, and I do not want to disturb my partner. I simply lay awake for a few minutes, and replay, and go over the dream a few times in my mind, and try to peg a few keywords of the dream to my mind. Last night, I was reading a letter in my dream there, for example. I remembered the word letter. In the morning, upon first getting up, I just quickly wrote that one word down, plus another word or two. Later, I will try to write the full dream up in my online journal, from these dream hints that I have recorded on paper, and then try to examine the dreams meaning for me. The dream last night was unusual, in that the letter was written to us from my wife's Filipino brother. He mentioned two words in there, which were Filipino words, which I had no idea of the meaning of them. I was dreaming that I was reading this letter from my wife's brother to us, and it mentioned two Filipino words, that he was explaining their usage of to me, "bana" meaning husband, I looked it up later, and "anayad", meaning serene. He was explaining the different ways to use these words, and the slightly different spellings/word endings for each use. Then, in the same dream, I was now in a room with other people around me, and I was looking for the remote control for my TV, as I wanted to change the channel, but when I eventually found it, on a coffee table there, I found that the batteries had been removed, and that the black plastic cover was still off of it too. I asked around the others, about who had taken the batteries out, and a man, who I knew in my real life, said to me that it was him, as he had used them in his remote, for his portable Music player. I said to him, "Well, you could have asked me before you did that, as I have plenty of spare batteries here that I could have given to you for that." I was feeling a little putout, by his doing of this. Now, this might seem to be a good message for me in the first part, but the second part is saying something else about me again. All dream meanings come from other meanings that we already hold in ourselves, but which still need to be expanded, strengthened, or let go of. I am proud, and this dream means to me that I must drop this pride, and just be serenely peaceful, in all of my thoughts. I can be a serene husband then, but only if I drop this pride of not wanting to be annoyed, or put out of my comfort zone, by others. I also must not think that others can depower me, by any action of theirs.

@Shiva49 Thanks siva. I love the intrigue, and the entertainment value of them too. It is like a night theatre in overdrive. I look forwards to my dreams each night.

@innertalks That is using dreams for the betterment of us. I think very few go that distance like you to take the trouble. Occasionally I get hints that I should take my dreams seriously as they are the guidance from our subconscious mind that is connected to the almighty. When we drop pride and ego and substitute them with compassion and understanding our lives take a turn for the better. We should eschew those that are a mere burden. I also feel we should take our dreams seriously as the messages can prove crucial; they have a purpose no doubt - siva

I always do have dreams of what will happen sometimes but its always blurred, when the dream event starts occurring it triggers my memory back to the dream and most time I can tell the next phase

That's good if it is triggered like that. If I do not write my dreams down, I seldom ever remember them again. It's only then when I reread them later, I can see that some of them did foretell some of the events that did happen.

I think that all dreams are sort of weird, until you examine them, and try to understand them more.
