Back in 1970s and 1980s a new wave of movies started in Bollywood - Bombay(now Mumbai) which came tp be known as "Masala" movies. The most famous director/Producer of this class or category was Manmohan Desai and later Subhash Ghai and others to some extent. The movies usually showed a family destroyed by villains. The heroes used to be from this family and often separated. There were songs, love interests, sometimes foreign agents like the Anglo-Indian actor Tom Alter in Parvarish or other movies. Later on, some movies added foreign locales like Switzerland or England or Dubai. While purists and serious movie lovers(I love serious cinema too)might scorn and growl at me for loving such movies, in pure entertainment, I don't find most of today's much more efficient and realistic movies no match to these in terms of pure entertainment. Good Night from India. The clock showing 11.46 PM is staring at me wondering! An example :
Directed by Manmohan Desai. With Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Neetu Singh. A policeman adopts the son of a bandit. A misunderstanding leads the officer's own biological son to believe he is the bandit's son and he takes up a secret life o

@Icydoll there are good movies now also. Yet simplicity is missing, and vulgarity and crudeness is more. We cannot watch most movies with our family.

Yes, those Masaal movies used to be very popular ones as people would relate themselves with the heroes of the movies! There have been many Masala movies during that time like the movie by Sippy and Sippy, the father and son duo, which has created records on Indian Screen and the movie has been prescribed in the syllabus for the students pursuing their career in Film Industry!

@AKRao24 and Amitabh Bachchan dominated that era. I liked many of his movie dialogues and sometimes use them like : Nastik : "Aaj khush to bahut hoge tum"(you will be very happy today! ) Deewar : Mere pass maan hai (I have mother! ) Trishul : In response to Sanjeev Kumar : Mere pass kuch hai to meri maan ka aashirwad (if I have something it is my mother's blessings ). Any favorite dialog of yours?

@AKRao24 one more dialog from Deewar: "Main aaj bhi gire hue paise nahin uthata " (I still do not pick money thrown on ground).

Times change. Some directors who ruled the roost during certain phases fade away when interests of the audience change. It is just like film songs, though some from the 50s to 60s are timeless - siva

@Shiva49 yes 50s and 60s was the classical period of Indian cinema which was also under the influence of the new found freedom of 1947. The 1970s showed the discontent and the growing anarchy.
