1700's Fashion

Lovely fashion

What if fashion stopped in the year 1700, what if everybody is oblige to wear 1700 fashion, what would it be like? Well for sure it is very pleasing to my eyes but I think it is very high maintenance and also it takes time to dress up and I can't imagine the loads of laundry. Ha ha

No, thank you. I don't wear dresses now and I don't really intend to start. Yes, it is quite beautiful and quite fashionable but the layers! The ladies wore so many layers underneath. I don't think the ladies could dress themselves either.

@Friendlypink Well back then it didn't much matter. Those who could afford such pretty and inticate dresses also could afford servants.

@ScribbledAdNauseum right. I just love reading articles or books about the past. And I am also fond of watching movies of such. How about you?

I would be here for it! Even though I am much more in the Victorian era. I would love for other fashion to be socially acceptable.

@Friendlypink a petticoat used when wearing a big skirt adds more volume to the skirt, and a young girl with petticoat is adorable to watch, especially when pirouetting.

Things were different back then. Nope there's no way any woman would wear that today.

Ha ha. Imagine having a date with a woman wearing thise kind of dress. You can't even get close to them because of how well rounded the dress are. I bet you can only stay like 5 inches away from them. Lol

no. I wouldn't like it. I think it would very hot with all the layers the women wore. Plus the fabric may have been scratchy back then.

Ha ha. It is nice to look at in the movies and books. But in real life I guess it will be hard to move around.

High society ladies would probably struggle more than us poor peasants! I've worn historical costumes for days at a time and in 1700 you're talking a chemise, stays (like a corset), then skirts and bodices. It's not as uncomfortable as most people imagine it to be but I wouldn't necessarily want to dress like that all the time. The long skirts can be the least practical thing, especially when you are trying to climb stairs or the weather outside is wet and they're dragging on the floor.

Wow. Lucky you that you did experience wearing such a work of art dress. I want to wear one someday even just for a picture.
