Inside Victorian books. Fantasy is better than reality.

I have been having fun reading romantic novels that my grandmother used to read. Today i have been reading online from the Gutenberg project the novels by Florence Barclay, an English novelist that could be said was from the Victorian age. I started by The Rosary and have read on other books I did not know about. I am perfectly happy. My eldest daughter Tania destroyed in part my happiness by calling me to tell me that someone had stolen her new handbag with the purse inside from Morocco. It seems to me that it is better to live in a world of fantasy. Last year, burglars entered twice in my house. My youngest daughter wallet was stolen in Spain. Leticia lost her cellphone last week and now Tania´s handbag is taken I still remember when children left their bicycles in from of their houses unattended. What happened to that world?

Today's world bears no semblance to the past.

It is a pity the old values have disappeared.

It is so sad that these things happen. People have to be extra vigilant about their possessions now or people will steal them. I think these things happened in the Victorian Era as well but people had more morals back then. I agree that sometimes escaping to a fantasy world is better than the reality we live in. I hope that your daughter is able to recover her handbag.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I hope that Luna will protect me in the future. As for now, although she will not attack, she can bark and keep away some people.

@marguicha The bark will be enough to alert you and I do hope it will deter the majority of those trying to get in.

@marguicha I'm glad you have extra protection. I couldn't imagine how you must feel when it turns night time there. Especially as you have been robbed before.

I also enjoy reading books that make me remember the past and the simple days of long ago.

Between yesterday and today, I read quickly several books that I had read before. After them, I´ll start with Jane Austen. I have them in my second floor in paper, but I´ll read them here, in my laptop.

I totally agree that fantasy is better than reality in the world of books. I'm so sorry your daughter had her handbag and purse stolen. I remember you talking about your two break-ins. The world we lived in as children is far removed from the world of today. It would be nice if people had the same morals and values as they did then.

Today, every time one of our children go out, we worry about what will happen to them

I think it is happening now around the world. Here in the Philippines, there's too much of that. Better to watch our things carefully.

I'm so sorry about what happened to your daughter's handbag. It's really terrible to be in a place where we can't be safe at all.

I often wonder what happened. Times have changed and not for the better.

We have some good things. But we have not learned to make good use of what we have.

@marguicha I love the conveniences that make house work easier but it baffles me that children no longer have school books, they must do everything on computers. And so many people are not respectful. I think a lot of it is caused by movies and TV where anything goes and kids see this stuff early in life before they understand proper behavior.

@marguicha That's what I think. They see so much of it they aren't shocked about violence in real life and it becomes common to them.

It is not that safe anymore compared to the past generations. I guess social media and movies have a affected the way younger generations think and act. They take bullying or shoplifting is fun and worth millions of views. I hope they learn to use internet in fruitful and well mannered way.
