Favorite Movie Week - Day 4

I haven't forgotten the movie week series, though at the moment I'm a day behind due to not having time to watch a movie yesterday, but watched it today instead, and might have time to watch another yet today, being Friday and not going anywhere tomorrow, so no need to be up super early.
Wednesday's favorite movie was Pride and Prejudice. I own three versions of the movie, but the one shown above is my favorite. The one they came out with a few years ago, which is only 2 hours long is my least favorite. Two hours doesn't do the movie any justice.
In defense of the movie, I love the movie and have seen it a number of times. In fact, I could say the lines now as the actors do, which tells you it is definitely a favorite movie.
The version shown above stars Elizabeth Garvey and David Rintoul in the leading parts as Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam D'Arcy. Inspired by the book, written by Jane Austin, a book I do not recommend by any means. I bought it several years ago when I saw it at Good Will, and thought it would be an excellent addition to my library. I was wrong. Frankly, I don't know how she became a well-known author, or considered great, when there isn't anything more than dialogue and no description whatsoever in the book, at least not in the first several pages I read. No idea where the characters are, or what they are doing. At least the movie gives depth to the book. I no longer have the book.
Pride and Prejudice is a period romance when horses and carriages were the mode of transportation, and women wore beautiful gowns and had wonderful manners. The same for the gentlemen.
It is a movie of mistaken attitudes. Elizabeth believes the worst of D'Arcy, thinking him too proud to mingle with people below his aristocratic status. He rebuffs Elizabeth the first time they meet, and then through a series of events where they meet socially, he has a change of opinion about her.
Other characters lend support to Elizabeth's belief he is proud and unreachable. It isn't until he shows her the truth of the matter in a letter, that she realizes how wrong she was about him.
I give this movie version 5 stars and fully recommend it. Have you seen the movie, and which version have you seen if you have? Thanks for reading.

I have seen the 1940 version with Olivier and 2005 with Keira Knightley. This is the 1980 series. There is also a 1995 series with Colin Firth.

@JohnRoberts I haven't seen the 1940 version, but the 2005 version doesn't do the movie justice. The one with Colin Firth, is okay, just not enamored with the actor who plays the cousin.

I love the 1995 BBC adaptation with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It is 5 or 6 hours long. I didn't like the most recent Hollywood version with Kiera Knightley. I've read all of Jane Austen's books and I think she is a wonderful author. Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility are my favorites. Emma is pretty good too.

I'm glad you enjoy the books. I need description in a book. I like the Colin Firth adaptation, just not the actor playing the cousin. I haven't seen Sense and Sensibility.

My all time favorite is the 1940 version with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier.

Saw a version with Colin Firth I think. I liked, but this is not my usual movie night, I'm more into action/sci-fi/adventure movies . The last movie I saw was Split with James MacAvoy. Great movie, but not for everyone I think, the main character has 23 personalities and it's developing the 24th, a terrifying one.
I hope you enjoyed the movie night, take care!
