Today My Heart Bled

United States

This may seem crazy, but today i was doing some shopping at Wal-Mart, and I saw young mothers buying back to school items, such as notebooks and pencils. I had such a pain in my heart. School just let out, and now it's time for kids to go back. When my kids were going to school, they had a full three months out of school. Then I thought about all the school shootings we have heard about this year alone. I remember saying a prayer for all the kids everywhere, and the parents.

Its sad! This weekend is the tax free weekend for school clothes and supplies. We got out the last couple days of May and went back after Labor day when I was a kid, many, many years ago.

We did too, it was fun in the summer that's true. These poor kids by the time they turn around it's time to go back.

Do students need to have a computer at home these days?

Not sure, but in my day if you counted on your fingers, you got a whack on your knuckles. But they have them so I guess so.

@sharon6345 But what about poor families that cannot afford a computer and Wi-Fi?

I remember we had ten weeks off, not quite a full three months but the most part of it. Here they were out mid to late May and will go back Mid August so that is about three months. It is scary to think about safety in the schools.

When I was in school I loved having three months off. We always went back after Labor Day.

We always had about 3 months off. But now it seems like they only get about 2.

I never thought we'd be living in a world where school shootings would be happening. The world has gone crazy

Before my kids use to leave home we would pray. At that time never thought I'd live to see this.

@popciclecold me either. When I sent my kids off to school I always expected them to be safe. Now I pray daily for my grandchildren to be safe in school

I cringe when I start seeing those displays already. I'm a teacher. I'm not ready to think about going back!
