Are you making soaps? Lotions? Lip balms?

I have been talking to so many people lately about the things they make or plan to make. I've given a list of links to one person already but I thought I might as well make it a discussion since so many of us require this information. Now I have to say that youtube is such a good source for ideas, recipes and tutorials. I set youtube up on my t.v. and just search away and can spend hours listening to tutorials while mylotting. You can find some supplies on amazon or ebay but there are other sites as well. Let me see if I can't break them down for you. Essential Oils I use Eden's Garden for this. They have a nice program that allows you to save on further purchases. This also isn't an MLM company and their oils come from reputable places. Fragrance Oils And Soap Dyes Now this site also has molds, essential oils and other things. I've not used this site yet but I plan to do so. https://nurturesoap.com Waxes and Butters This site also has clays and decorative botanicals. I plan to use this site as well and a lot of different youtubers use this site. https://www.bulkapothecary.com Then there's https://www.brambleberry.com which if you've watched youtube "SoapQueen" this is her store I believe. I just happened to think that all of these links probably dropped to the bottom. We shall see. If so I guess I'll edit it.

The closest I have ever come is making my own candles but I am happy to buy things already made these days.

I think you can make things for yourself much cheaper and also know what is in the products as well. Even natural made products you can buy at the store aren't guaranteed to have all natural ingredients. I don't know - I guess that's just me. I'd rather know what is going on my skin and even be able to control the scent.

@BelleStarr I have bought from some companies, including those on etsy, that are all natural. I am glad that more companies are striving to be more apparent about their ingredients and offer all natural products.

I am not into doing it myself for the most part. I totally appreciate the time and care put into things made in this fashion, but I'd rather seek out the individual who has perfected the craft. There are a lot of instructional clips to watch on youtube, but I wonder where myLot draws the line as far as "recipe" sharing goes. You see my place is in the kitchen, but I wouldn't ever give out a recipe or a link to a recipe in a post, although I have given them in a pm. Its a fine line. And I have so much personal satisfaction when I stumble upon these on my own.

I can appreciate that. I seemed to have upset Andria and I am not sure how. I had to PM her to let her know that I felt terrible about it. Again, like I said, I wasn't sure how this post upset her. Anyway, I had to get that off my chest as I've been thinking about it for the past hour. I am of two minds about sharing things that I have perfected and / or crafted. I will sometimes give out tips but not a direct recipe. I like to be helpful but I don't want to give away my secret as I feel it lessens the value of my work. Does this make any sense?

@Juliaacv Oh here I go confusing people again. I was referring to food when I was talking about perfecting things. Though I think it's very much a matter of opinion on both food and beauty recipes. Just as it is with mattresses, some prefer firm and some prefer soft. Some prefer bars of soap and others (like me) prefer body washes.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oh yeah, totally makes sense. I didn't realize that you have perfected some of these. I don't know of anyone that makes these on their own, except for the rich and famous who have their own lines.

Well, all I can say is good luck to you. I dabbled a bit in making a few products here and there, but many years ago. I prefer shopping at my favorite stores now. It’s easier that way for me.

I would rather know what is going on my skin. I am slowly but surely switching to making my own products or buying off of etsy. I've recently found where I can buy the fragrance oil for my favorite lotion so I intend to make my lotion from now on.

@DianneN I have a third cousin who does the same. I know she has a shop on etsy but I can't for the life of me find it. I am going to have to find out from my great aunt. I've got a friend who will help me sell any items I might make. Plus be my test dummy.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That makes perfect sense. I hear ya, and use what is best for my skin, too.

It wasn't just you. Several others I have talked to here have expressed interest in doing things like this. It is something I have been thinking about for several months. I am just now getting in a position where I can start purchasing the things I need.

I love receiving hand made items. There are simple recipes to make things like lotions. You can make a lotion bar by simply using a double boiler and melting beeswax and cocoa butter together.

Some of it is quite easy. You can make lotion and lip balm using the same recipe. Beesewax and cocoabutter melted in a double boiler.

I hope there are some that can use it. I found out about most of these places with a simple search.

I don't do any of that stuff. I was interested in making homemade soap at one time, but once I saw how involved the process was. . . I quickly gave up that idea. I'd rather just buy it online from LUSH.

I won't make bar soap but I plan to make body wash type. It is much easier. I am not a big fan of bar soap anyway and think about all of them make your skin feel girmy.

Yes I am trying to remember what they are. I want to make a few things for an aunt who suffers from fibromyalgia. Maybe I'll sell these things one day as well but for right now i just want to start making them for my family.

I admit that I tried making laundry soap and so far so good. They came out so good and mild. Lotions and body creams were good with high moisturizing. However, I'm still working out the process of making hair molding wax, its a process but God willing it will be good with time.
