What Is A ' Thread ?'

I often come across a word here on mylot - 'Thread .'
Let me explain what I understand from this word.
I respond to someone's discussion.The initiator of the discussion comments back on my response. This time I again comment back on their comment and they again comment back on my comment .
The sequence continues for hours or days or,even for months.
Is this long chain of their and my comments called ' Thread? '

yes, that is a thread. i always say that even though i have a few likes and comments, i make a thread out of one comment

I don't know. I think here it is still called a discussion. But as I've looked at the definition of "Thread" maybe it is.

True, threads are started because of a discussion but what makes a thread is when more than two people comment on someones response, it is also a lot of fun when more than 4 people begin to comment on the comments within a thread. This is becoming a thread as long as both of you keep on commenting on each others and my comments here.
