Catch as Catch Can

This is what happens when you're thinking of poetry lines. I hope I don't bore you too much. Poetry lines come and go as they desire. It’s up to you to catch them if you can. Poetry Lines I walk the treadmill a lively pace My bored mind spirals to scenes far away To lines of poetry that forms in the air Of silver tailed deer at home in their lair Chipmunks of brown in warm cozy nooks Haunted trails and fairy tale books Zany lines of weird poetry said Sweet gums and maples turning to red Fairies and goblins deep in the woods Pastures of cattle chewing their cuds They keep me walking briskly in place Lively as children they chatter and play At last I am finished and off the clock I hurry on home a jump and a hop Get out my tablet of paper and pen To write it all down from where it began My meaningful words of beauty divine Skittish as minnows swim out of my mind Fragile as clouds floating in the blue sky Dwindle dismember and away they fly I must weave my lines of dull scanty gray My loveliest treasures have faded away Words will not wait to be hammered in lead Its catch as catch can before they have fled

I could never master the art of writing poetry so I admire anyone who can. You did a great job with your poem

I know exactly what you mean, but for me the lines come when I'm out walking or driving, and have forgotten them when I get home. You've made a lovely poem out of this problem, well done.

Thanks, It happens to me too when I’m walking or just sitting quietly. When I can I jot my thoughts down but when I can’t I try to piece them together later.

Very good! Yes, the mind keeps us entertained even doing the most mundane thing as walking a treadmill. Nice picture.

@RubyHawk I didn't associate that picture with spring, but I can see it is. Whatever works for the imagination.

Waking the treadmill is bad enough but it is a good time for the imagination to work. I liked that picture, it was early spring, the sky was that spring blue and the leaves were just coming out.

THis is great. I know what you mean about meaningful phrases and words disappearing before you have a chance to catch them on paper.

@RubyHawk Me too. I used to have little notebooks all over the place but I don't do so much writing anymore so now I don't bother.

If you don't write them down, words and phrases fly away quickly. I hate it when I think of something good and they fly away before I get to pen and paper.

@JudyEv I have pads in my purse, on my desk, near the telephone. I'm always jotting down something.

@Hannihar I don't like to submit many poems here. I thing management frowns on poetry.
