Yesterday's Scary Incident

Well, after the heavy rain on Thursday, I was so happy to see the sun yesterday (Friday), that I took a walk around our road and then walked around our whole yard like I do regularly. As I was walking through our back yard, I almost stepped on a small to medium very thin dark grey snake with it's head up. I think I startled it. I didn't stand there at all to see what it would do next, because I dashed away and ran into the house and shut the door quickly! My husband and son were inside and they said "what happened"? because I seemed kind of panicky and I told them. We think it was probably non poisonous. It still scared me a lot because I am scared of all kinds of snakes. Also, after that, I now know one thing. Never, ever go out into the yard barefoot! Luckily I had shoes on.

It was probably a garden snake. Harmless but still I am glad you did not step on it .. I had a snake a big one run over my feet while I was standing at the washer downstairs in a house I used to live in. The house had a big rock garden and the snakes were abundant and used get in the house omg

That reminds me of my dad. When he was small he went to pick blueberries on the request of his mother. He was barefoot, and stepped on something with a weird texture. He looked down, and it was a snake. He said he went one way, and the snake went another, but to that day he has been freaked out terribly by snakes. We had a couple of copperheads in our yard once, and he sliced their heads off with a shovel. Tip for people who kill poisonous snakes: don't dispose of the snake right away. The head can still turn and bite you, injecting you with all its venom. To be safe, wait for five hours or more.

I am sorry your Dad had that fright as a small boy. And that is good info about killing of poisonous snakes heads. I didn't realize that.

OMG! I’m petrified of any snake. I wear knee high boots whenever I walk Doodles lol. One snake zigzagged rapidly towards me last week. My husband had to walk Doodles for me until I calmed down. It took me days!

It can be really scary to come across a snake when you're not expecting it.

Yes, keep the shoes on and keep a very close eye everywhere you step. I would have been in a panic too. I'm glad it wasn't more serious.

You never know for sure which one will visit. That is a good rule.

I never go outside without shoes, I know there are two black snakes that regularly visit our garden.
