If there is one dangerous side of beaches around the world it is the fear of sharks that in the waters while a person is swimming in the ocean. A young lady whose name was not identified by the authorities was bitten by a shark on Monday at Bald Head Island. A surfing instructor who was an eyewitness to the event managed to call 911 to report the incident when the young lady screamed as she was in the sandbar in the Atlantic Ocean. The father of the young lady went into his rescue mode by coming to take care of her by getting her into a ferry so she can get some medical attention. The officials at the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office report that the young lady was bitten in the right calf by a juvenile shark who probably thought that the swimmer was invading his region. As much as I like going to a beach, the fear of sharks is one thing I am careful when I am in the ocean. The shark bite is not life threatening as the young lady was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his wound.

The young lady was very lucky. I grew up just north of Bald Head Island near Wrightsville Beach and once found myself snorkeling with a shark. I held very still until he swam out of sight and then I turned around and headed right back to the beach.

@Deepizzaguy I don't blame you. I don't venture into the ocean often myself on the few chances I get to go to the beach.

I went to the beaches near Pensacola Florida a few years ago and I stayed near the shore due to my fears of sharks.

The young lady will be okay. I am sure that her fear of sharks will be on her mind though.

Glad she was alright. That would keep me from the beaches. I am really not a beach person I like swimming pools the best.

I like water parks better than beaches.

@Deepizzaguy I have a water park about a block from where I live and I am planning to visit in the near future. All I want to do is plop on one of those plastic rings and float.

The young lady will survive. I do not blame any of us if we stay close to the shore when going to the beach.
