Does it matter?

A book still a book, whether new or preloved.
When the year started, I have come to discover online stores that sell books, both preloved and new, then the next thing I know, I have been buying a lot of preloved books. Preloved books can be barely read, secondhand or nth hand (if the term exists, lol).
But as I buy, I discovered the pros and cons of those preloved books based on my experience.
The pros are: They are much cheaper, they smell wonderful and the cons are: since they are preloved, more creases and I am not sure if there was any page torn.
It is a tie.
So what is the best choice, new or preloved?
I am sticking to preloved, the torn page on one Neil Gaiman book was just an isolated case(and I can still read that page on my iBooks), I think and I can bear the creases.
How about you?

I like secondhand books because I can get them for a cheaper price. Many second hand books are still in good condition. I've only come across one book that was a little more worse for wear than the others.

@Lucky15 I came across a box of books in my closet. Some are stuck together, and some are missing the cover and back of the book. These aren't books I would read, it's just sad that they also aren't in a condition that I would be able to sell them.

I love old books they are so charming. I also love new books of course, but old books just have something unique about them.

@DesirousDreamer i know, based on the creases, definitely know how many times it was read and chances are, the books are good or maybe not, lol

@Lucky15 Well it is the charm. Like, how many times was this book read? Did the owner lend it to someone? The history, it is the history of old books.

@Lucky15 So, good to compose a some "To all the books I've loved before" :) Seriously, I was really wondering why they are called preloved books. If the previous owners of these books loved them, they would have not disposed them.

I like new books. I enjoy the fragrance of fresh books. Torn pages are hard to handle

@Lucky15 When I switch on the fan, torn pages start playing hide and seek with me. I hate it then

As long as all the pages are complete I don't mind the preloved ones. There's a bookstore here that sells only preloved books in good condition. I don't mind the creases and I don't mind that some of the pages have writings on them.

As long as it serves the purpose, it doesn't matter whether it is new or old.

I don't mind buying pre-owned books, so long as none of the pages are damaged beyond readability or missing. And yes, I will thumb through the entire book before I plunk my money down for one that has had a previous owner. You just can't trust people when it comes to buying pre-owned books!
There is nothing worse than getting to the last page or pages of a book and then realizing someone has ripped out the ending of the story! Especially if the book is difficult to find or out of print!

I check out books from the library so they are all "used."
