If there is one good thing about authority figures like firefighters and police officers having the use of video cameras on their uniform, it is to record an event as it happens. On July 31 the West Aliis Wisconsin firefighters were called into service most likely by an eyewitness who saw an auto burning with the male driver asleep at the wheel. Kurt Zellmann who is the assistant chief EMS of the West Allis Firefighters and his crew used an ax to break open the window of the burning auto that had the engine on fire due to the accident on the road. The firefighters were able to break open the front window but since the doors were locked and the driver who was sleeping, had his foot on the accelerator which may have the cause of the engine overheating and catching fire. The driver was then dragged out of the auto safe and sound. The catch was that if the driver was not able to get out of the auto in time, the fires would have consumed him. The firefighters then found out that the driver that they saved from dying in an auto that was on fire, that he was drunk at the time of the accident. The name of the driver was not released. The age of the driver is around 60 years of age. The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated. He only suffered some minor cuts and bruises which likely came after he was dragged out of the car and crashing his auto.

I'm glad the driver wasn't seriously injured. We should praise the fireman, he is too brave.

I am sure the driver will tank the firemen for saving him.

He's lucky to be alive, thanks to the eyewitness who called it in. Too bad he was drunk. I hope he learned his lesson about drinking and driving.

I hope so too that drinking and driving while drunk is a recipe for disaster.

He is one lucky fellow. Latvian have a saying which goes it's the luck of the drunkards meaning that it seems when they have accidents they come out all right but when people who are sober have accidents sometimes they get badly injured or don't survive

He was one lucky guy and those firefighters EMTs worked very hard to get him out and save his life. That drinking and driving is so dangerous.

Driving while drunk is playing Russian Roulette. It can lead to a bad ending.
