Brushing teeth with baking soda.

August 12, 2018 12:30am CST
I just brushed my teeth with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and like 4 drops of lime. It cleaned my teeth well. But it did not whiten it. But all the stains are gone. It is really effective in cleaning teeth. But mind you guys it is so abrasive my gums now feel like beating. It hurt my gums a bit. That is why you can only do this twice or thrice a month. Have you tried brushing using baking soda.

My dad used to use baking soda all the time and he never had cavities.

How long did he use it. Is it true that it can cause thinning of enamel?

@Friendlypink I don't know if its true or not, he used it for years and had his first cavity in his 40's. Still had all but 1 of his real teeth when he passed in his 70's so it seemed to help his teeth

@hereandthere not as a toothpaste ,when we use weekly once it whitens teeth.. little is enough if we use more than that it damage enamel.

Does it taste awful? Tooth-paste dries out my mouth and lips. I'd like to find something else to use for cleaning my teeth.

No. I just brush my teeth with toothpaste. No such experiments in which I indulge.

I gargle it instead. It works better than mouthwash.

It is good but it doesn’t whiten instantly. You can also have 1/4 tsp with your toothpaste too. It is good to thorough clean your teeth.

It really doesn't have that whitening properties.

If you have sensitive gums it may not be for you because it is to abrasive.

I've heard baking soda is good for brushing, along with many other uses for the stuff. But by itself, yes, I would think it would be a bit abrasive.
