Summer In the City

I was reminded of the song “Summer In the City” by the Lovin’ Spoonful today for two reasons. One was my neighbor’s roof down the street and the roof above my head. I do not know but I think the house at the end of the block just recently got sold. Now every day people are working on getting the house fixed up. They started taking the roof apart and since the past few days we have had downpours the house looks kind of funny with a large blue plastic cover on it. As for my roof it unfortunately leaks in one place and I have to keep putting a bucket under the spot until the landlord responds to repairs. My friends rent this house. So neither I nor my neighbor can head to the roof to cool off but I still love this summer song. “Summer In the City” was recorded by The Lovin’ Spoonful in July of 1966. It was written by three band members. The song incorporates the sound of car horns and other city sounds. It begins with a Volkswagen Beetle horn and ends with a jackhammer. The song went Gold and is on the Rolling Stone magazine list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Do you remember this song?
