All 14 states were on red alert in the state, central and north Kerala is the worst affected places. At many places people are trapped due to floods and waiting for rescue operators. Helicopters uplifted stranded families from the roof tops. 167 people died so far, 1.5 lakh people are in rescue camps and 32 people feared missing.
I think the numbers may increase as the rain is still pouring heavily there.
There are lots of snakes in the state as there are many forests, due to floods all dangerous reptiles are out which create fear among people. Not only snakes but other kinds of water animals are also creating fear. Fish are also seen but they do not harm people anyway.
The central government deployed all the three wings of armed forces for the rescue operations in the state. However, many people are still trapped in many places without food and water . The communication also got disrupted. There is no power, electricity has been cut off to avoid accidents, so mobile phones become dead. Many towers are affected so get in touch with people is not easy through mobiles.
Today Malayalam new year is starting and Onam, the state festival is on August 25 (the 10 days festival already started). This time there won’t be any celebrations In Delhi due the sad situation in the state. All celebrations are cancelled and people are busy on collecting money for sending to the state and helping people there.
Just wish and pray for all the people in the state.

@jamesnitpback I have to agree as the floods caused due to the uplifting of shutters of Dams. So there floods are created by man. Even if one month continues rain, the area of ours will not flooded this way. I can't believe on watching the videos send by family members.

Prayers and wishes for the safety of all to find refuge and safety very soon.
I have been in a flash flood and its very scary as well.
Hoping they can all go back to their homes.
Is this because of the Monsoons?
I thought they were in September.

Yes dear, Monsoon started there in the end of May and still continues. Due to this water reservoirs are overflowed so authorities decided to lift the shutter up and release water from the same which caused all damages. Rain water won't be enough to make damages this way. 33 dams lifted its shutter up and released water so naturally all rivers and other water bodies and nearby areas become flooded. Rain is still there but today the shutters are down so expecting receding water from affected areas, which of course will take time.
Heavy rain is still pouring then landslid is also a reason for floods.

@lovinangelsinstead21 But water is coming to rivers and spreading the nearby areas. The problem is, water occupied all places within a short span of time and no one can guess such a sudden floods. The announcements were made later by the officials to be alert and vacate the houses.

Oh gosh that is tremendous so the flood I was in was a mere drop of water compared to that.
They do the same kind of thing here don´t worry and don´t keep an eye on the dams that much.

@Shivram59 I remember the Tsunami in Odhisa that time one of my colleague was from that state and his parents were marooned for days. So he left immediately to his state on leave. Luckily they were safe.
Regarding Kerala, upper areas are cleared from water but covered with Mud. The lower areas still under the water. Then the western part is getting water abundantly from other parts of the state. So it leaves the place in a worsened situation still. Hope they will be safe within 3-4 days.

Thank you so much. Every state is trying their best to help 'Kerala' state in this critical time. I think may be Kerala is the first state getting this much help from every part of the country. From Delhi, a truck from the side of Delhi Malayalee Association (DMA) already left for Kerala with necessary goods, cloths and medicines. More organizations supposed to follow the path of DMA. Balagokulam called off all the celebrations of Janmashtami (which we started preparations already and printed notice etc) and will do a prayer meeting on that day then send all the funds collected for Janamshtami to the people who suffered in Kerala.

@Sreekala Yes,people from across the country are deeply pained by the calamity the deluge has brought to Kerala.I still remember the days when Tsunami hit Odhisa.Although we are far away from the worst affected areas of the state, but what I read in magazines and watched on TV was heart-breaking.The memories still keep haunting people who live in coastal areas of the state. At that time also help came pouring in from all parts of the country.

@ZedSmart Thankfully all the army wings are on the duty. Prime Minister also visited the place and has done an aerial survey. But he could not complete his investigation due to heavy rain then called up a review meeting. Many people are willing to do voluntary works by their own will. The only problem, some locality is not easily reachable by the people. They need both road transport system and water transport system to reach some places. Heavy flow and waves in water also a threat for rescue operations.

The Kerala floods have been very very terrible. I have contributed a little towards Kerala Distress funds and one more. People - supreme Court judges, politicians, film stars all are helping.
One film actor even postponed marriage and jump into rescue work.
