Avoidable consumer court disputes - an Indian situation

So this health insurance agent neglected to disclose the BP medication my father was taking, despite 3 reminders and said he is doing it in my interests as it will keep the policy premium low. What can happen...when god forbid dad is hospitalized, the physician is gonna ask, what are the medications your father is taking. It needs to be disclosed so that he does not end up doubling the dosage or prescribe something that ends up creating havoc with that. The secret will be out, and health insurance company will have grounds to refuse payments saying we hid the facts. The contention of the agent was the medical tests were done and presence of the drug would be there in the blood. So it is the responsibility of the company. I say the BP would not have been alarmingly high because of the drug, and all types of blood and urine analysis are not done. As if this dispute was not enough today I received documentation - hard copy. And what do I find...dad's signatures are forged by the agent. Implication is, in future when dad wants to claim, signatures would not tally, and claim would be denied. So here starts another fight....I am having tough time holding my temper. The journey began on Friday 13th July and there was solar eclipse on that day, and it was as per our calendar "amavasya" ...no moon. Of course, I am throwing the agent out. I just want people to know that agent you buy insurances from may not be well versed. His primary interest would be to get his commission, and get it QUICKLY. Please be alert.

I am glad that it's different here, there are no agents, you choose if you want "basic coverage" or "full coverage", the only difference is that you have a private room at the hospital with "full coverage". I do not care, all the hospital are only 2 beds here and it's nice to have someone to talk to if you are hospitalized.

I agree...basic coverage is fine most of the time. It helps to have somebody who notices when you fall down..or something. Here, that type of rooms are not available in sufficient numbers though. We are overpopulated and there is more demand for lesser coverage. That is the reason I am buying full coverage. This means I can go for shared room, or single room, based on availability. Same for dad as well.

@vandana7 With basic coverage we have free medications, free hospital, free doctors visits, there is no reason to pay more, unless you want a one bed room with view at the hospital.

@LadyDuck Here we have to read the document very carefully. I have the terms and conditions that I read through thoroughly. Limited ambulance charges, many diseases are not covered, and hospital admission charges are not covered. Simply simply too much to read, and as layman we would not know the diseases as well. You know stem cell therapies are not covered. I might have to buy a separate coverage for that later on.

Vanny's never ending story. Soon you'll be able to work as an agent yourself. You've learnt a lot of tricks from these people. I wish you much patience!

I think I am going through very bad period. LOL. Thank you so much. I actually shared the problems here so that other Indians would know about it, and anybody else who has taken coverage can take necessary steps to correct it now as later on it will be running to the courts and possibly losing the case.

That is highly unprofessional. I wish you a nerve of steel to fight against such things.

Absolutely. The guy just does not want to listen. I have sent a stinker to the company. Normally they reply...you know mechanically. Today it was not. May be it is Bakri Id so it is like that. I am just deeply concerned and frankly appalled at the way the entire thing has been handled. I have to wait till tomorrow and it sure is not easy. Should I be sending mail again...and if not from another email? They can kind of instruct that send it to spam, right? They are not lifting phone. They are simply not grasping the issue. The lady said she would send a letter saying that consent letter is not used to verify signatures. She called me to tell me that. I have not received such mail. To top it all, she is not lifting the number, and I am unable to SMS her. It is a big company...HDFC Ergo. What sort of staff is that!!!

@vandana7 That is so unfair and unprofessional. You can wait for a day and then try again. If they don't pick up the phone, try from some other number and even trying from other mail id might work. Definitely give negative feedback on social media and platforms.

No...but the company is quite understanding. Now I have bought almost 5 other policies so far from him, and am left wondering whether he has been doing this all the way. Ideally, Pancard should be taken on record. It has the person's signature.

@vandana7 Taking the pancard xerox for record keeping is the norm everywhere... I am surprised that they didn't demand it
