Yesterday I received this charming email. I know it is a scam, because I NEVER visit the kind of sites it talks about, and there is NOTHING on my computer that would be compromising if it were to be made public. I have reported it to the appropriate authorities, and am now sharing it everywhere I can to make others aware of the scam. Should you receive one of these emails, please report it IMMEDIATELY to the authorities in your area, and DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, SEND MONEY TO THIS SCUM. Here's the email: Hey there Lynn Fowler I'm absolutely not the individual who speaks a whole lot, thus this is going to be really brief. You are in deep crap! Around a 30 days back you had been attacked with my RAT software virus #61309112. And since that time, each and every damn day it was mailing me loads of helpful information, messages, logins to your social accounts, contact information and the images from the screen and the cameras, and also the sound from microphone. Couldn't really get specifically valuable info for me personally, but was fortunate enough to make a few movies that have been captured while you've frequented pages for grownups. I wasn't also laid back and built a movie where on one half of it is the monitor, and on a different a live image from the cam. It ended up not terrible in anyway, despite the fact that I am not necessarily strong at cropping and editing the videos. In any case, I am confident your family members and friends will very seriously be thankful. Still don't rush to choose which way of self-murder will be the best choice for yourself. This issue can be solved very easily. We are all humans and can discuss everything. So: I provide you with the my wallet address, that I created exclusively for you and within next 3 days I am going to simply wait for the value of 560 united states dollar in it. In case I find this income - I will forget about your living and remove everything that came with your system. Otherwise, be sure I will send this footage to contact info which my malware uncovered. Maybe I will even get it done utilizing your accounts. I only take btc. If you have trouble with this currency - you can effortlessly find info on the way to use it in Yahoo or dailymotion or whatever. my wallet - 1BKTx1HzUk5nbKC9MJFJoNy9MPxYoUEsyp I do not recommend you to get hold of the authorities, cops will not have the ability to locate me sooner than the payment deadline since I'm from another nation, and in addition take proper care of my privacy. Think again before you throw away stupid actions, your name and further life really rely on it. Do not try to get in touch with me. I personally use one-time mail and your answer is actually will not likely be viewed. Good luck! Image from Pixabay

Wow, that is really bad. But so obviously a scam. I wonder if they really catch people with this stuff. I suppose they must or they wouldn't keep trying it on.

I know it's a scam, and I know that there is nothing on my computer (or, for that matter, in my life) that they could use against me. But if someone who HAD been doing such things received one of these, I imagine he/she would be in panic mode - possibly even sufficiently so to meet the demands (which would probably escalate from there.)

@lynnief Yes, that's true - and that's why it's so awful. They'd have nothing on me either but even small 'indiscretions' would be enough to really worry some people if they were to receive such a message.

Strangest thing I ever read. Thanks for the warning. I have made a lot of purchases lately because I am setting up my new apartment. For several weeks now I have seen this email from supposedly FedEx telling me I must verify my address. I know something is up and I continue to delete this email because all the stuff I ordered that came by FedEx has been delivered to me.

I've never seen this one. And the pattern of bad English didn't identify it as coming from a certain part of the world. In fact, it read like something written by an American trying to sound kind of stupid.
