McCain Ruins Legacy In Death

Whatever anyone ever thought about John McCain, or his legacy, one thing really bothers me about his departure from this world, and makes me question why the man deserves the honor he has received at all. Hatred, pettiness, and vitriol. Look, I am not going to deny that then candidate Trump's comments about how he felt about 'heroes who are captured' disturbed me, and I absolutely disagreed with what he said at the time. Yet, for McCain to have used his grudge to spoil the repeal of Obamacare, even though he both opposed Obama's bill, and promised his constituency that he would repeal it at the first opportunity to do so, just to rub against Trump, is not honorable. His farewell letter to the nation was rife with innuendo about the Trump administration and should be considered no less than petty and disgusting. The non-invitation of Sarah Palin and Trump to his funeral is equally disgusting and not honorable. What? Does he blame Palin for his failure to win the presidency? I followed the campaign closely and if anyone spoiled the victory it was McCain who stumbled over himself the entire time. Maybe I agree that Palin was not the best choice as his running mate. But the failure of McCain to win the presidency was all his. Or did he choose not to invite Palin because she supported Trump? And every American should be totally disgusted by the failure to invite the President of the United States to the funeral. The whole thing diminishes the man, diminishes his legacy, and for me really causes me to have a massive amount of dislike toward the man. Even to make such comments as were made about the current administration at the funeral was a disgusting and dishonorable act. It was not the place nor the time for such things to happen. In the end I do not believe that McCain deserves nearly as much respect and admiration as he got. In the end the man was reduced to ugliness, pettiness, and dishonor. I have to admit I was never a huge fan of McCain as a senator. But there were many things I did otherwise appreciate the man for, and did support him when he ran for president. I take it all back.

He was held prisoner for five years - and was tortured too. I won't wish that on my worst enemy. Personally I would forgive him any perceived oversights.

I do not discount his service or the sacrifices he made honorably. But his final acts certainly diminish and tarnish his legacy. It makes what might have been a huge man very small.

@porwest I have heard and read reviews about how Trump has made the US better which is a good thing. For McCain, may he rest in peace, he did what he could.

@aureliah Trump is doing an amazing job. That's about all I can say about it. We got lucky he ran, and won.

I think he was seriously ill no? Not a lot of news about this man at all over here and I figured that its the same man I heard about. I can´t say anything really as I don´t know him at all to be honest.

Unfortunately, this is an example of the state of politics in our country right now. Even the so-called "admirable" politicians are being sucked into the pettiness and name-calling and other BS that is going on right now. You would think the good ones would rise above the crap that is going on at our nation's federal level.

I wouldn't take it all back. We're all human, and all capable of being petty at times. I would have invited Trump and even Palin just as a matter of protocol.

The only thing I will personally remember about McCain in the end was how childish of a man he became. To me that is sad. I do take back any support I had for the man.
