Holiday Weekend Equals End of Summer

A holiday (Memorial Day) started the summer season here with red flags flying (means high rip currents No Swimming in the Gulf) and now the end of summer holiday (labor Day) the weather for the last two days (Sunday and Monday) the beach goers are facing the same conditions except that on Monday they are expecting double red flags which means even the surfers are not allow in and you can receive a fine of $100 for going in. The merchants are disappointed for they were hoping for a grand end to the summer season.
The unofficial end of summer has come (real end is not till the 22nd) and here you can't tell it a it has been hot except when the showers come which does cool things down some.
Tomorrow being Labor Day means even if I wanted to go somewhere I can't as the buses won't be running which makes it hard for those who depend on ECAT to get to work having to pay out for cab (I hated that when I worked as it also made it hard to get a cab as so many were having to use that service that normally didn't). At least if I want to get out Walmart is only two block away.
It is still strange to have Labor Day without Jerry Lewis raising money for the MDA as grwoing up and until the last one it was the highlight of that weekend hoping that they would hit that one dollar more than the previous year and always tearing up when Jerry sang that last song as the show ended.
Hope you all are having a great weekend.

I almost went to your neck of the woods today, as a buddy of mine was driving to Pensacola to visit Fort Pickens. If I didn't have another set of guests coming into town to visit me today, I would have jump in the truck with him and gone to visit the fort (I've never been). Oh well, maybe I'll get another chance one day soon!

@Elizaby Do you live pretty close to the fort? I've been by it a few times, but I've never been in it.

@moffittjc About a 0 minute drive from here on the mainland in Pensacola as you have to go over the 3 mile bridge into Gulf Breeze and then across the beach bridge and then drive down several miles to the Fort Pickens entrance and a couple of miles or so beyond that to the actual Fort. But they started a ferry service recently which will take you to the actual fort site from the port area in downtown Pensacola. Which will be good as the beach road has been wahed out several times over the years.

I think it is a good idea to fine those who defy the 'no swimming' signs. I don't know if we have that here or not.
