Good Tuesday afternoon to all fellow mylotters, how were you since yesterday? It was a very busy Monday and tiring Tuesday, and still another school activity again on Thursday from one PM to three PM. The title of my discussion is 4:39. Does anybody have an idea what this means? We are 4 clinical instructors who evaluated the level 4 nursing students that total to 39. There were three nursing procedures that we taught them and these procedures were not easy to perform in the actual hospital setting. Yesterday, I and another colleague evaluated students regarding assessing and checking, and changing of dressing of a patient who has a chest thoracostomy tube (CTT). The checklist in their logbooks were theoretical so we taught them the actual picture and included some improvised equipments that are used in the hospital where they have their duty. The other two had 2 dummies for insertion, dressing, and removal of suprapubic catheters. They were so ahead of us so I decided to make another dummy for the CTT procedure. So I and the other colleague evaluated students as they came. After that other 2 finished with their task, they prepared 4 dummies for assessing, and changing the incision dressing of patients who have central venous pressure (CVP) lines. We four had fun and we finished the evaluation of the 39 students in 2 and a half hours only. It was an exhausting activity but we are happy the students did well except for some who felt they know everything but they had more errors than those considered in the middle level of knowledge. Next week, we will resume our work in the hospital. Fingers crossed our students will be able to do what are expected of them by us.

That's a good exhausting day you had. You will always have students who think they know everything.

@just4him she has the confidence, but i see her as a student who committed an error in giving medication, and that is one point against her.

yes that is true. one student that i told to submit an incidence report was boastful again in doing the procedures, and she was over-confident as well. i think she is vying for the CumLaude award.

yes that is true and i agree. it is a mathematical expression, ratio and proportion, am i correct? well, the medical terms are the attachments of patients with respiratory problems, and urologic conditions.

For a moment I thought you were talking about time, but now it is very clear. You are only 4 to instruct 39 students, this is a lot of work I suppose.

yes that was what i meant. we are 7 part-time CI's but the 4 of us, (me, AUA, LM, and Cata C) will handle levels 3 or 4 students, while FCT and the wife of our clinical coordinator will handle level 2 learners. the condescending colleague has no task because she has another work in the airport here.

oh, i am sorry, but the title should be read as four is to thirty-nine. it is like the ratio and proportion formula in mathematics

I had assumed 4:39 was the time. I was not even close to being correct.

i believe many of you read the title as 39 minutes after 4 o'clock. but it is not. it is a mathematical expression.

yes i believe so. even those who do office work do some hands-on preparations so they know what to do when they are taken in their jobs. how much more for the students who will be my colleagues; they should be well-knowledgeable and equipped with skills and right attitude in handling ill and sick persons.

hahaha! no, actually, last Monday i arrived home before 6PM and yesterday, before 4PM. yes, we have to re-train our graduating students on these procedures so they will not be scared to do these in the hospital setting next week.

A meaningful title you have there. Sadly, I was lost with those hospital terms. Haha. Good luck to your students.

Ha ha. Without yet reading the whole context, I thought it was 4:39 p.m. I supposed to add it with, 4:39 and the rain is falling because it's raining here til this time but you are referring with ratio. That's a whole exhausting experience but it seems you love your profession.

i love my vocation dearly. i don't consider it as a hundred percent work or job, but maybe 50% profession and 100% vocation. yes, it is an expression of mathematics--ratio and proportion
