True wealth is health

It's been a week around here to say the least. Since learning that mom's blood levels were slightly elevated - there have been many Dr. visits and tests for mom. So, 2 sets of images have been taken, one called a CT Scan and one called a PET Scan. So the PET scan is actually a test where the patient has some radioactive glucose - and the sanner can then see which cells are using the glucose the fastest. Things like your brain, and heart (since they're actively doing stuff for you) use it. But sometimes , if there's a problem - cancer will use the glucose up fast too. Well both the CT and the PET scan showed a mass - that isn't necessarily cancer but looks suspect. Her oncologist is "worried that it's a recurrence". That was the phone call we got yesterday and after a good cry - we all realize that this isn't the worst news that it could be. If it is an issue - then it has been caught incredible early on. So this means more tests, a biopsy and possible chemotherapy. In the meantime my mom is taking this better than I am. I'm very freaked out at the moment. I'm angry, but the stupid thing about this is, there is nothing to be angry at. It's a faceless, formless disease. It isn't fair. My mom tries to live healthy and all through the time I've known her she has been nothing other than a nice person. And she has to deal with this on top of having gone through many other surgeries and procedures and well a lot of stress that I won't mention in this post. So we keep praying and hoping here. Keep on top of your health. Go to all of your recommended screenings. Photo: Pixabay

I am so sorry that both scans showed a mass, Faye. I hope that further tests will reveal that it is not cancerous. Strength to your Mom and you @FayeHazel .

@FayeHazel Faye, it is not easy and I hope it all works out. Your Mom sounds like a very strong woman and does not want to leave this earth yet. I asked in another post that you asked about Sophie's present and how it worked out. I will pray for her and for you also.

Thanks for asking. Here we are....nearly a month after the first news of this.... and we still have no real answers. The oncologist feels sure that it is a recurrent cancer, though the images are not showing this for definite and the blood is only slightly elevated. She's had 3 kinds of pictures now, and 1 biopsy - biopsy was negative... still the oncologist feels strongly.... Mom is determined to beat it, if it is cancer at all. It tears my heart out but I must be strong for mom

So sorry to hear about your Mom, Faye. Sometimes in spite of our efforts to remain healthy, the unexpected occurs. You have a right to be angry. I always wonder why such good people are stricken with terrible diseases? Is it because God knows they can handle it? Cancer does not discriminate among rich or poor, race or religion. It is just a horrible word no one wants to hear. My brother's best friend wife succumbed to cancer not long ago. My prayers to you and your Mom. Medicine has done some wonderful things with discovering effective treatments. I hope this is just a bump in the road and your Mom returns to good health.

You always have the right quote and the right words DB. A true gift. Thank you for your kindness and friendship. I have wondered that, too. Why good people deal with bad things? So sorry for the loss of your brother's friend's wife.... horrid disease. Hopefully there will be a cure soon. True too, medicine is always advancing. We appreciate the good thoughts

Thank you for prayer - We appreciate that. I am sorry to hear of your issue - that is a good question. the blood must go somewhere.... but.... where? Is there a support group for people who have the same or similar issue? Did you find out new news from the Dr.? I will check your posts too. I do not blame you. It sounds exhausting, but I while I don't blame you from being tired of it - I hope you keep up fighting the issue... I enjoy your discussion and hope that you can be as well as possible, for as long as is possible. I will include you in prayer
