The police and the state government aren't acting any better. Scared of the backlash from the Church?! From the very beginning of this case coming out, they have been trying everything they can to shame and silence the rape survivor. From victim shaming to calling her a prostitute on social media channels. Even claiming "a conspiracy against Bishop". 1) The internal probe by Missionaries of Jesus declared the Bishop as innocent and gave him clean chit within a day. 2) Gave the Nun's Photograph to the media and then said, "We aren't responsible if it becomes public." 3) Breaks the law by revealing the identity of the rape survivor Nun. It's Dera Sacha Sauda thing all over again. The question is: In a democratic and secular country, who is bigger? The law of the country or the law of a religion? (Photo is mine)
The Missionaries of Jesus said that the group photograph was taken when the nun was attending a private function along with Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

I read at the end that it is a Catholic congregation. Congregations do not obey to bishops and this bishop cannot be "a bishop of the religious order" like this article tells. Another weird thing : this second complaint has been filled by the nun's brother. You can do that in India ? Usually there is an internal investigation and the congregation lodges a complaint together with the nun if they believe her. Apparently the nun has not followed this procedure, and lodged a complaint for rape. Her right. These nuns are not cloistered, there is a picture showing some of them holding signs to ask for justice, and their order had absolutely no reason to "clean" this bishop like you write. Congregations are often in bad terms with local bishops, and the surprise is more that this one "cleaned" a bishop than the opposite. Now it is difficult to tell if they cleaned him because they believe at his innocence, or to punish rebellious nuns, or both. Just another episode of internal wars inside convents, and just my opinion, I am discovering the case.

I am reading that the nun complained to the Vatican : like many congregations, this one is probably directly under the authority of the Pope, but it is weird that she did not waited for the conclusions of her congregation before appealing to the Pope. It confirms some serious internal problems.

@Daljinder I do not think that shaming was the goal when they gave this photo to journalists, it was more to tell that if she had been his victim she would not have sat near him later. This said, I do not want to tell that she is not a victim, maybe she is.

@topffer Victim shaming is part of our "culture" now so to speak. That's what happens when you live in a patriarchal society. Add to the fact that powerful people sweep the cases away with money and intimidation often. Bishop just stepped down.

@Daljinder What happened in these people's lives....where they learn to first blame the victim? What the heck man! It's like someone here, she's a celebrity. She got raped when she was younger. When she went to the police, the first question she was asked was "What were you wearing?" ummmm exsqueeze me?

@VivaLaDani13 No matter what part of the world we live, dudette, patriarchy and toxic masculinity prevails everywhere. Victim shaming is the by-product of it.

What happened is horrible. I see they asked the Vatican intervention to remove the Bishop? Did they get a response from Vatican? Did the Pope intervene and did something to bring justice? I would like to read more about the case just to see if even this Pope only speaks and finally protects the rapists as all the previous Popes did.

@Daljinder It is a shame that the Vatican still ignores those claims.

@LadyDuck The Nun allegedly wrote a 7-page letter to the representative (I don't what they call the person, sorry) for the Vatican and to the Pope. No response yet. The accused Bishop just stepped down.

It's a shame to do such evil acts in the name of religion. Genuine Jesus followers won't ever do this. Evil people

@ShifaLk It's unfortunate the need to defend religion overpowers the need to actually follow the said religion which means to follow truth.
