Day 24
Luke 8:1
Luke 8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
Many not-for-profit organizations ask for charitable donations, which in the United States, is tax deductible. Not-for-profit organizations include religious establishments.
Jesus had many followers who saw to his needs, including women he healed from evil spirits. Those women gave of their wealth to his work.
As Christians, you know the importance of giving, and how doing so helps fund the many programs of your church, including missionaries sent to the front lines, bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who didn’t know or never heard about him before.
You don’t think about it, but it took money to travel throughout Judea as Jesus did, telling everyone about the kingdom of God. You only think about him going from place to place, not what it took to do so. One of Jesus’ disciples, Judas, kept the bag of money for their expenses.
It was on one occasion when perfume was poured on Jesus that Judas made an issue of the expense of the perfume. John showed he was the one who held the bag for their expenses.
John 12:4 Then said one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bear what was put therein.
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna supported Jesus as he traveled throughout Judea. They saw to his needs. In that way, Jesus could tell the people about the kingdom of heaven.
When you support your church, the missionaries they send out can tell about the kingdom of heaven, and what Jesus came to earth to do for them, in dying for their sin, bringing salvation to the world. Doing so is part of the Great Commission Jesus gave all those who believe in him.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Are you supporting the kingdom of God?
Let’s pray: Father, help me support the work of your kingdom, giving of my substance so that people will know what your Son, Jesus, did for them. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
