compost happens

Sometimes bad things happen. Things die, or are left behind. This green pick up truck has a sign in the window: "Compost Happens" The front plate says "Prairie Person". It is driven by a volunteer, who has designed the ornamental gardens, and likely has paid for or furnished the bedding plants himself. His buttery yellow shirt says "Gardener" in green block print. So, bad things happen to us. They leave a residue behind. The good thing is, we can sweep up all those things and put them in a large pile. We can stir them a bit with a shovel or pitch fork. As we watch that manure, and fallen leaves, and grass clippings and dead flowers all turns into beautiful rich soil. We can ruminate on the bad things in our lives, and take the good with the bad. Offer prayers to understand. In the long run it has the potential to grow a beautiful soul, a lovely spirit that offers sweetness to the small creatures, the travelers, the needy. I hope some compost happens in my life. I want to nourish the beauty in the world. Compost happens, and so does growth.

Just as plants need compost to grow, so to do we need the hard times to help us grow and to let us appreciate the good times when they come.

He was there working and he would come out to his truck for tools and go back and work and visit with people. I think gardeners often have a good attitude.

Yes, it was. I think people who look at life that way live longer and better lives.

Without bad days, we would be unable to fully enjoy the happy days.

@GardenGerty It is just like when you visit a pretty ugly place, you immediately appreciate so much more your house and where you live.

Yes, without compost our gardens wouldn't be nearly so lovely.

You can not have good days without the bad days. That is all the facts of life.

I'd love to spend an afternoon with the owner of that truck. You're right. One thing can nourish another; what has happened before makes us stronger.
