Day 27 Luke 8:19 Luke 8:19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. 20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. 21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it. Everyone has a mother, and some of you have siblings. However, many of you consider other people you are close to as your mother and siblings. Jesus had brothers and sisters as well as a mother, Mary and stepfather, Joseph, as his true Father is God. Jesus did not deny he had a mother and brothers, he looked around the crowd and told them his mother and brothers included everyone who heard the Word of God and did it. You know his mother did listen to what Jesus said to do, and eventually his brothers did too, as we know two of his half-brothers wrote letters included as books in the Bible – Jude and James. As Christians, you call each other brother or sister in the Lord. It’s common to do so, without denying your own family. You include them in your family. You are all part of the family of God, if you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. You are included in Jesus’ family. What a marvelous thing that is. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for including me in your family. Help me see myself as your child, a joint-heir with Jesus, your Son. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 18 September 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Amen. Some church members can be closer to us than some of our family members.
