Ever laugh at a joke that wasn't funny?

Ever hear a joke but didn't get the punch line? Either way it is a very embarrassing thing to experience. I heard a joke a guy was telling a long time ago, and can't really tell you what that one was about but everyone in the room was laughing, but I had to fake it. I mean, I had to pretend to get it, and pretend to laugh in a fake manner. It's like, when someone explains sports and I act like I know what he's talking about when he says, "Second Down." - Yea, it was the one after the First Down, I guess.

I used to laugh at jokes to be polite. Now I don't and when people ask why I'm not laughing, I simply tell them the jokes not funny. Sure, they get upset and start trying to explain why it is funny and I stop them and tell them that if they have to explain it, it isn't funny. Gosh, it's fun being over 55 and having my curmudgeon license.

Wonder what would happen if people admitted they didn't get it?

Pride gets in the way usually or fear of ridicule, which is worse? I can't say.

Yes I did. When I was in college and one girl told a joke and everybody laugh and I didn't get it and I laugh because It would have been embarassing for me not to. I'd look stupid since everyone else laught.

Yes, it can feel really embarrassing. But it's best to avoid being singled out. I heard one you might like, When a Pirate is having his 80th birthday, He says "Aymmaty." and What did the Zen Buddhist say to the hot dog vendor? "Make me one with everything."

@BabeSays Well They say the are one with the universe or one with nature, while meditating, so to speak so make me one with everything is like telling the hot dog vendor to make him a hotdog with all everything on it, relish, onion, and so on. But it was meant as a pun, not actually funny if you are a zen Buddhist. Some religious people might take that as a slander to their faith. I hope the joke was not offensive. It was told to me today by a friend who was told it by someone else and I thought it was a good play on words.

Sometimes I laugh at the stupidity of a certain joke, thinking of how foolish it would be for me to have said it, thinking, I am so glad it wasn't me who told that joke.

That is exactly what I meant by my post. Funny thing about that, a student once said something to another, he said it to a girl and she laughed just because she was attracted to the guy, but he replied, "That was not supposed to be funny." - as he did it to make her feel uneasy and I felt it was a good way not to get a date with her.

I find it difficult to pretend to laugh. I'd at most say "that was a good one" for politeness sake.

It's all in the way a punchline is delivered. Some people just don't know how to tell a good joke. Don't feel bad. Happens to me a lot too.
