This weekend is the town-wide yard sale

One of my least-favorite weekends of the year. So much traffic, people parking part-way on my lawn (we don't have curbs), people blocking my driveway, etc. It was even worse when we had 2 cats that went outside because I was afraid that they would be hit by cars. That was always a fear but it was increased exponentially on yard sale weekends when so many more went down our usually-quiet street. I finally started putting them on lockdown like I would do around Halloween because I just didn't want to take any chances. We are having people over on Sunday for football. The good news is that the 2nd day is always more quiet so there should be less traffic and enough space for all of our friends/family to park on the street. The funny thing is that the people 2 houses down have a huge competition-style smoker and they advertise and sell barbecue (pulled pork, brisket, "pig candy") both days of the yard sale. We will be firing up OUR smoker on Sunday for ribs, turkey breast, and meatloaf so it will be like dueling smokers. The block will smell VERY good. The traffic will pick back up on Sunday evening. That's when everyone puts all the crap that didn't sell to the curb for the bulk garbage pickup the next day and you get the scavengers and cheapskates who drive through town looking through people's crap to see if there is anything worth taking. Yard sale weekend is definitely not one of my favorites.

Do you mind picking me out some size 12 running shoes at the town yard sale? It would be much appreciated! I'd do it myself, but you know...traffic and all.

I'd rather just buy them new for you and have them shipped down there.

Sounds like a hectic weekend. Are the yard sales held once a year?

people can do them on their own whenever they want but the town-sanctioned yard sale happens just once a year.

Sounds like a huge headache having to deal with traffic all weekend. We have a community yard sale going on this weekend too but at least we have sidewalks so no one will be parking on anyone's lawn. I'm not participating as it's just too much trouble

@NJChicaa I've seen your posts about your sister selling your clothes. Good idea and it's profitable for you. Yard sales don't yield much money for all the trouble it takes

I usually just throw my crap out. Lately I've been giving my old/too big clothes to my sister to sell on Poshmark. I don't DO haggling. A yard sale would never be for me.

Our town has nothing like that, and I'm thankful. I don't like yard sales . I also wouldn't be happy with someone driving and parking on our lawn.

ha! I don't need the dollars that badly. I'll be busy anyway prepping for our Sunday Funday football party. I want to get as much prepped as possible so I can enjoy our guests.
