Have I officially become an Old Fuddy Duddy?

With each passing year, I wonder when I will transition from terminally hip Late Baby Boomer to Old Fuddy Duddy.
Over the past three days, I have had to listen to constant rap music and incessant cursing from the guys putting a new fence in around the perimeter of our apartment complex.
I am quite capable of listening to irreverent music (Frank Zappa, Warren Zevon, Dead Kennedys, and Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band are all on my play list), and I am also able to curse like a sailor, and do so freely with certain groups of friends and relations.
But I am sick of tired of the words "b*tch," "d*ck," and "s*ck" and "f*ck" at this point, and wonder how these guys can't understand that there might be children around, of even teachers trying to grade papers.
I had to blast some classical music to drown out both their music and their conversation. The power tools don't bother me a bit. Have I become an Old Fuddy Duddy?

No, you're just a decent person who doesn't appreciate having your sensibilities insulted.

According to what you write, I think I have been and Old Fuddy Duddy since very young age. I never liked to hear bad words all the time. Some people seem to say them just for the stupid pleasure of how they sound. Childish and immature behavior.

@TheHorse My family had a rule, bad words are never appropriate and accepted. Even in a very bad situation I have never heard my father swear. he got very angry, he told to the person what had to be told, but in the right way. When I hear adults swearing "just for fun" I cannot understand where the fun is. Is telling bad words fun? This is ridiculous.

I'd have to say I agree. But I think one also has to consider ones audience. I have worked as a teacher or psychologist with kids for over 30 years. I have sworn in front of a child once, when a bus driver pulled out and almost ran over a van full of kids. I was driving. At a party, or at a music gig, I don't swear. But with certain friends, we swear a lot, just for the fun of it. If others are around, we do not. To play loud rap music and swear loudly where families might be present, and while at work, is inappropriate period. As far as that behavior goes, I've probably been an Old Fuddy Duddy since my early years as well.

Beauty is, they say, in the eye (or ear, in this case) of the beholder. People should learn to curb their invective, there are more than enough words in the dictionary to mean those particular ones do not need to be used. Not even in jest.

Call me OLD and fuddy duddy cause that would really grate on my nerves. I'm not a fan of rap but they should be more considerate when in public and people can be offended by lyrics and the language used.

@Marty1 I suggest you play this song for him and see what he thinks. There are no bad words in the song.

We could have the Fuddy Duddy Band perhaps. It would be annoying to me to listen to that all day, but at least you found a suitable solution.

Yes, you have officially become an Old Fuddy Duddy! But, not because of your inability to listen to constant rap music and the language construction workers around your apartment have been using where you could hear it, pony. You're an Old Fuddy Duddy because I have decreed that you are!
Maybe someday, after you join this century in a phone that is much more than a phone, I will again see you as a hip and "cool" person again. *really laughing so hard*

While on the job they should be a lot more respectful. I would complain about it to the boss or whoever hired them. Not a Fuddy Duddy, just respectful of others and want the same given back.

I don't think it makes you a fuddy duddy. I think it makes you a person with some class. And not the kind you teach!

Well, maybe so, but I agree that the rapping and loud conversations could get old fast. Ummm... were those all musical groups you mentioned there or law firms maybe?

My grandma has become an old fuddy duddy, she can't even watch a horror movie anymore because of all the cursing.
I'm sure I'll reach the old fuddy duddy stage but I don't think it will be about cursing, it will probably be something else when I actually reach that point, but until then I'm going to stay open minded and let people just live their lives and not be grumpy about much. Life is too short to be grumpy.
