I am really upset on reading an article in the newspaper today. The author holding a high post, revealed her trauma at the age of 16. She also said, “I can understand, why a woman would wait years to disclose a sexual assault”. I don’t know how the article disturbed me mentally. Recently a Bishop arrested for raping a nun during the period 2014 – 2016. Political leaders questioned her, how she kept silent on all these years, so it was a conspiracy against the bishop on some personal issues or she might be a prostitute. (Whole world condemned the arguments by a particular leader and later he apologized on his remarks on this nun). However, on questioning the bishop for long hours, police arrested him, of course after getting clear evidence against him. On reading newspaper on daily basis one thing I realized, there are many rape incidents happened all over the world on daily basis. Girls are not safe anywhere in this world. ( I have to admit boys are also not safe). The only relieving thing is, girls are quick to report the incident and not ready to hide the pain inside, which may affect their life in the long run. I have only one question, why these kinds of incidents are increasing day by day? Is it because of lack of fear? Lack of punishment?

The only thing happening these days is more reporting of these incidents have been taking place. Previously it wasn't much. Lack of fear and punishment, even misuse of authority and power can contribute to increase in such cases.

I agree, earlier people hesitate to report the incidents. Now media is there to report each and every incidents, without looking the high image of the person.

@Sreekala that is the only positive thing, the other aspects of these incidents are really very upsetting. Small children to old people, nobody are spared.

I really don't have any idea about the increasing number. But reporting of incidents increased. Sadly every day 3-4 rapes happens in Delhi itself. So you can guess about the other parts of the country. I am shocked how people can involve in the crime so easily?

@Sreekala May be more cases are reported now.But I don't think it is the increase in reported cases only.Don't know why I feel that rapists have started challenging our entire system and society after the barbaric nirbhaya case.May be what I think is wrong.

@Shivram59 People lost compassion in their mind, which is leading to barbaric acts.

All I can say is I haven't raped any woman, and being a man I haven't been raped. But surely I have been abused and bruised.

That is too late to report but there are many things that hinders a woman to report rape. Shame is one of the reason and the angst to be bullied from the people who doesn't believe her.

Yes, even if she is reporting after a long gap, it will be misinterpreted, sad but true. The "Me too' is revealing that only. All are asking where were these ladies when it happened to them.

@Sreekala I am sure they were not believed and shame made a great part of it keeping the rape a secret.
