An overdue book returned to a library 84 years later

Better late than never in returning an overdue book in Shreveport.

This story can go under the heading of the Ripley's Believe It Or Not files. A book called "Spoon River Anthology" that was authored by Edgar Lee Masters was checked out in 1934 by the mother of a resident in Shreveport Louisiana. The patron of the library mentioned that he was 11 years of age at the time when his mom checked out the book from the Shreve Memorial Library which is the main library in Shreveport. The patron found the book in his mom's home when he was cleaning up his home when he found the book. Talk about dodging a bullet in the figurative sense since the library officials could have charged the patron a huge price for returning a book 84 years later. The patron was only charged $3 dollars for returning a book 84 years later since the price of an overdue book in 1934 was $3 dollars at that time. I am sure that patron breathed a sigh of relief when he had to pay $3 dollars for an overdue book.

If there had been a huge fine I would have sent it back anonymously.

It was so considerate of the patron to return the book to the library. The library officials did the right thing in being considerate to the patron.

It must have been an interesting book (for the mom). You got my curiosity to learn more about the book
