My first ever goodnight post

The photo has nothing to do with the post unless they are now putting Peruvian guinea pigs in burgers. I went into Bunbury, Western Australia, today for a skin cancer screening test. The doctor didn’t find anything nasty so that was good. Also good was that they bulk bill Medicare so I didn’t have to pay either. Of course there was a double-sided sheet to fill in, giving them all sorts of information about my medical history. It struck me how lucky I am as I ticked no, no, no all the way down the page where the various ailments/conditions were listed. Was I on any medications? Again a ‘no’. Who is my regular doctor? I don’t really have one as I haven’t been to a doctor for yonks (a long time). So after that I treated myself to a burger (Whopper Junior) and a strawberry sundae from a fast food place, Hungry Jacks. It cost me $5 total. I’m sure it gets cheaper every time I go there. When I got home the phone was flashing and beeping to say I had a message waiting. Well whoever rang didn’t leave a message and now I can’t stop the beeping. There is nothing to delete so it just keeps beeping. In the end I switched it off at the wall for an hour or two. Of course when I switched it on again my son had tried to ring twice. I rang him back and he has broken his wrist and has to have an operation on it on Wednesday. He is four hours flight away so he is going to have to manage on his own. He is 46 so I’m sure he’ll cope. But the phone is still beeping every 20 seconds or whatever it is set at. I think I’ll take it off the hook when I go to bed or it will drive me to distraction through the night. So please, if you’re thinking about ringing me, please don’t because you won’t be able to get through. But you can ring in the morning if you’d like too. Do I really need to say that’s meant to be a joke? Good night all.

Those guinea pigs are cute! I'm happy you're alright and such good health! Keep it up, that is amazing! Good wishes to your son on Wednesday. My Mom is having a procedure done Wednesday too. I will be thinking about your son as we wait

I know I'm lucky. Most at my age are on some sort of medication even if it's mild.

Let me play some sleepy time, but I am biased. Do not know why but works every time. Innocence I guess. Glad you seem to have things under control though as far as that goes. Stressful stuff.

At least I now know I'm okay for the moment. Some of my friends have had to have some spots burnt off or otherwise removed.

Skin cancer is very prevalent here so it is good to be checked out - and found wanting!

Did I read it that you are being treated by Dr No? Glad to hear you are in good health. Phones used to make an awful sound if you left them off the hook. Have you still got an old fashioned one with a handset and finger dial? Mines cordless and you can't leave it off the hook. Actually I don't know why I've got one these days as the only people who ring are nuisance callers.

@JudyEv I thought my best joke there was the Dr No one, but you've just skipped over it. Yeah, I think like me, you weren't pressing the right buttons.

This is cordless but I didn't know you couldn't leave it off the hook (if indeed you can't with this one) so it didn't work at all this morning when I put it back on. However it has come good now. I pressed a different button and it has shut up thank goodness.

That is very good news that your screening tests returned a normal reading. You get a lot more sun then we do in our part of the world.

@JudyEv Well, it is hard to say, but it is better for the son who broke it and not the bass player.

@JudyEv - Electronic devices can drive us crazy! Today, the alarm on someone's cell phone went off in my yoga class. It was irritating everyone until the owner of the phone finally got up and turned it off! LOL

I'm sorry about the beeping. I'm also sorry to hear your son broke his wrist. Did he say how he broke it? I'm glad everything went well at the doctor's office and you could check no all the way down the list. That's great! I wish I could do that. A whopper Jr. sounds good, and probably hit the spot along with that strawberry sundae.

The Australian health system seems a bit superior to yours - if you don't mind me saying. I've stopped complaining about it after reading lots of posts here.

@JudyEv Yes Medicare also pays for skin screening here once a year along with other important screenings. Happy you are happy with your system too. No I do not mind you speaking your mind. I do know that people here are suffering because of high insurance premiums. However I am not one of those thank goodness.

@Courage7 Your system seems totally different which is fine but it seems to cause people a lot of hassles sometimes. I'm glad that isn't the case for you. Once you have chosen your private health insurance, if you want to do that, whatever services you've signed up for are covered wherever and by whomever you choose to do them. It seems a bit different in the States with people having to change practitioners to fit in with their health cover.

He maybe 46 but still he still longs for you motherly attention specially now that he has broken his wrist. It was enough that he heard your voice and assured him that he will be okay.

@JudyEv FREE - nothing is FREE in SA, especially nothing medical. We pay up to R9000 a month for medical care per couple. (900 OZ dollars)

@Inlemay Wow, that is high. I think we pay $A300 a month. Everyone is covered by Medicare but you are encouraged to have private care as well as otherwise you could wait quite a long time for some procedures.

@JudyEv Why does it beep like that. I had someone call and he did not understand when I am home you have to leave a message and your name. He kept thinking I was there and not answering. I am glad you are ok. That is a really cheap meal.
