all on my ownsome

October 10, 2018 1:10am CST
I am all alone. Well, I'm not. I'm on a bus. But last night I was alone. And tonight I will be alone. {except for the cats} And I love it. LOVE. IT. I also love Husband, but it is SO nice to have some time to myself in the evenings after work. Getting up at forty minutes past the five every morning, without having to worry about waking Husband is pure bliss. My alarm can shriek away to its heart's content, without Husband growling at me in his sleep. I can even turn the bedroom light on! Heaven! It's healthy, mentally. For me, anyway. I don't understand those couples who celebrate a sixtieth - or indeed, any large number - wedding anniversary with the words, And we've never spent a night apart, have we Ethel? I'm not convinced that that's that {I love the English language} big of an achievement. Husband and I will probably celebrate our sixtieth {maybe even our thirtieth!} with the words, Yay! We made it! We survived wo hundred and fifty-eight nights apart, a bunch of embarrassing medical ailments, a few unexpected deaths, fifty-nine cheesy Valentine cards, a plethora of Christmasses spent with others when we would rather have been alone together, and much biting of tongues when we didn't approve of each other's choices. And all the good bits were a fabulous bonus. Of course, when I'm not relishing the enjoyment of chilling out on my lonesome ownsome, I am worrying that Husband has forgotten to take his medication, or failed to remember to buy toothpaste, or isn't drinking enough. And in the meantime, I might even be really daring and watch The Apprentice in bed tonight, with a cheeky food item. Happy day! {It won't be; I have Art all day. *yawn* ... I'm just pumping myself up in preparation.}

I have nothing to say here, we will celebrate our 50th in two years, we have worked together during all our life. My husband has traveled by himself a few times, but most of the time we have been together. Is it an achievement? Not in my opinion, it's our way to be and we are so happy to be together every day.

@Poppylicious When my husband is not around I feel happy the first day, I do a lot of things that I usually cannot do when he is around. The second day I start to miss him, from the third day I feel depressed.

@LadyDuck Yes, I like my space, but not for *that* long! The longest I've spent alone is the two weeks that Husband was in Hospital back in 2008. :(

But you have been apart, and enjoy your own things. Fifty years is definitely an achievement these days!

@poppylicious They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, whoever ‘they’ may be. ‘They’, however, are quite frequently wrong about all sorts of stuff. Absinthe may be what they’re thinking of in this case.

Brilliant post ….I do understand what you mean ...I love being at the caravan on my own during the summer ( its all too rare at home to have even one night on my own ….maybe twice or three times a year )...of course the family come and go throughout but the weeks on my own ...getting up , eating, going out , going to bed, watching tv without interruptions ….pure bliss.... Hope you enjoyed your time on your own …..and hope hubby returned safely x

Sweet, this post of yours... Made me think of this song, (you know the background of this lovely song?)
Believe me if all those endearing young charms, poem by Thomas Moore using an old Irish melody, arranged for alto voice and guitar - and performed - by David...

I enjoy my me alone time. My husband has frequent business trips and I am used to it. We just follow the ritual of calling and talking each day.
