I have to use an electricity key. Yesterday, when the electricity went off, I could not find it. I know the local petrol station keeps the keys and you go to the station with a number you get from the electricity board, they key this onto the new key, you return home and put the key in the meter and then return to the shop to put the money on. About a year ago the same thing happened and the guy in the petrol station claimed he had no keys although I knew he did. Yesterday, same guy claimed the same thing. I rang the mangager. The same manager explained to the guys where the box he was refusing to was was under the counter. The manager said he has actually resigned because of the staff. Anyway, having refused to find the key, threatened me with police for politely saying he did have keys and could he please look and "I had made a lot of trouble for him before," (I complained to the manager. ) The guy finally "found" the keys in an obviously visible box under the counter. Even if he did not, there was no way it took a lot of looking! No apology, but I did finally get electricity back in my house. After money was safely put on the key I looked at him and said "I knew you knew where the keys are. I know the manager addressed this with you before." Then I went. I think he knew and I knew he knew where they were all along.

What an *sshole. What's the big deal? Why wouldn't he want to give you the key?

@JudyEv Yes, honestly, you had to be there to see how deliberately awkward he was. He would not even look for the keys and claimed he could do nothing. They are in a plastic box under the counter.

Some people are odd. The bus driver asked the woman in front of me if she had a contactless card instead of the change she offered him. "But I have the correct amount! Why should I pay by card?" "It makes my job easier" was his reply. Cheeky eejit. She then paid by card. I wouldn't have done. And I would have complained about him. Glad you got your leccy back. :)
