ERRATIC taste buds!

I wanted to cook viand for our lunch. I asked my son to buy 2 small packs of vermicelli because I wanted to cook a ‘one-dish-meal’ of vermicelli soup with meatballs. We have cans of meatballs packaged by my big brother from UK so I used a can for the dish I wanted to cook. Having the influenza virus eventually reduces one’s senses of taste and smell. When I cook, I rely on the smell of the dish I prepare.I took this trait from my mother. So, when the viand was about to be cooked with the noodles and the meatballs, I added some salt, finely ground black pepper, 2 tablespoonful of fish sauce, and mixed them thoroughly. But I cannot taste what I cooked so I asked my sister to do the taste test. I could not even smell what I cooked, but my sister showed me her ‘thumb-up’ sign, approving that I cooked the meatballs soup with vermicelli satisfactorily. Can you eat well when you are down with influenza or any other sickness? My mother said that ‘even though we cannot taste the food, we should still eat so the nutrients will make our bodies stronger and the sickness will be removed’.

Any viral infection makes our senses ineffective, sometimes nauseous even. Eating becomes a chore more than anything, because strengthening our weak bodies is a must during this time.

I think that I was still a kid the last time I had influenza, I usually only had warm milk, I refused to eat.

That is correct! The food we eat is tasteless when we are sick. We should eat nutritious food

When my tastebuds are inefficient due to colds or flu, I usually crave or want to taste sweets and salty. Somehow I can taste a little bit of the taste.

I seldom get sick even when I was younger, but I remember what my mother told me that even when I was sick, I still have the appetite. LOL That instead of getting thin after a week or two of having flu, I get bigger.. hihihi

@brokenbee for me, even though my taste buds are not yet back to normal, when my stomach grumbles, i eat. like now, lunch later but i ate a pack of Jolly biscuit.

i eat something spicy so the taste buds will be back. this morning, i and my sister had noodles in one food store here; i added a teaspoonful of chili paste and when i ate the noodles and sipped the soup, there was sweat in my philtrum

but she also has a 'deficient' sense of taste. she admitted to me, but i think she can taste better than me.

Usually, I don't have an appetite when I am down with influenza and other illness. But you are right. We should still eat something to help us recover asap.

the health teaching of my mother is true. we should not take care of our sickness too; instead, we should try to get rid of our illness.

We really don't have that nice appetite if we have an illness. But we should eat nutritious foods to help us recover immediately.
