The whole idea about this topic is if only two persons with different cultural background and languages, will they be able to learn other man's language in one day (at least what is required for day to day transaction). Thanks for your response.

If you are keen on learning and willing to teach the other person whatever possible in one day, that is the essence of the discussion.

Every group of people has its geniuses and its idiots. In one-on-one situations where personal needs must be satisfied, it is not a question of who is smarter or which language is easier or learn. Each will be understood. A baby can be understood. Within a 24 hour period neither will know more than a few words of the other's language, but they will be lifetime friends or enemies, depending on how they pulled together and helped each other on that trip.

The idea of putting two persons with different languages is to know whether they can learn day-to-day usage of their respective languages. Thanks for your response.

I'm sure we could get enough words and sign language going to survive and say hello if we ever met again.

It may not be possible to learn the intricacies of the language, but one can learn in 24 hours, most of the things, like day to day requirements. Read and write may not be possible.

When I was a child I went to a Catholic School where teachers were mostly Spanish and German brothers (not priests). I remember a German brother telling us pupils that knowing how to speak Latin and German (as he did) it was very easy to learn English, as English words are either of french (latin) or anglo-saxon (german) origin.

It could be possible to survive and learn the other language and teach my language to him...that would be all that would be needed.

You can learn any language from any person as long as you are both smart enough to know how to communicate properly and bring about mutual understandings.
