Day 55 Luke 13:1 Luke 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 6 He spoke also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbers it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. What kind of person are you? Are some people worse because they have more problems? Or is everyone the same? Jesus’ attention was brought to people Pilate killed and then mingled the blood of those he killed with his sacrifices to his gods. Jesus told the people those killed were no different than anybody else. Then Jesus told the people what they didn’t expect to hear, they needed to repent. He showed the people from their history that the only thing that separated people from death was repentance. In every way, every person is the same as the next. Gideon pursued to kings of the Midianites, and as he pursued them, he asked food from the people of Succoth and Penuel, and they denied him food for his army, and Gideon promised when he had those kinds in his hands, he would return and tear down the tower of Penuel (Siloam). Judges 8:4 And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them. 5 And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian. 6 And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army? 7 And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers. 8 And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him. 9 And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower. 10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword. 11 And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure. 12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host. 13 And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up, 14 And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men. 15 And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary? 16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth. 17 And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city. 18 Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king. (KJV) Jesus told the people there was no difference between those Gideon killed when he brought down the tower, than there was for those Pilate killed. All men are the same. They lack only one thing. Repentance. As Christians, you know repentance separates you from death, hell. True repentance is the salvation of your soul, so that when you pass from this life to eternity, you won’t go to hell, but you will see the face of God and your Savior, Jesus Christ. Paul told the people there wasn’t anyone who is righteous before God. Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one. Psalm 14:1 < The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good. 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that does good, no, not one. Everyone, before the Holy Spirit touched our lives with the truth of God’s Word, that Jesus is the Son of God, that he was born, that he lived, that he died, that he rose again, that he is seated on the right hand of the Father making intercession for us, and that he is coming again to take us to himself, all of us were sinners. All of us needed to repent. There is no difference between anyone except repentance. Repentance ushers you into the throne room of God. Repentance lets you hear the Father say, Well done, good and faithful servant. Repentance clothes you in righteousness, and makes you an heir of God, his child. Jesus said, except ye repent, ye will perish. He wasn’t talking physical death, but spiritual death. Have you repented of your sins before God and accepted him as Savior and Lord? If not, you can do so today. Today is the day of salvation. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me I need to repent of all the wrong-doing in my life. I am a sinner in need of your grace and mercy. Wash me now, in the blood of the Lamb, and erase all that is wrong in me. Let me hear you say, Well done, good and faithful servant. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 16 October 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
