An October Day

The weather was cooler today and I enjoyed my two mile walk under the trees. It always makes me feel better to get out and hike the hills and trails. I worked up a little sweat before I finished my walk. I saw squirrels scampering around on the ground. They must be gathering food for winter, and a few birds were flying overhead. I passed several people on the trail and stopped to speak to a few. But I didn't get away unscathed. I felt a sting and before I could think I grabbed my shirt where the sting was and came away with a squashed honey bee. I hated that. I would never kill a honey bee. Our bees are disappearing at an alarming rate. He was a goner though. I put ice on my sting when we got home but it's puffed up and still stinging.

Oh, it was. I love walking in the park. I've read that trees give off happy chemicals and I believe it. I always feel better after a walk.

That's the first honey bee I've seen in I don't know when and I had to kill the poor little thing.

@Courage7 I couldn't help it, I hope I see more the next time I'm at the park. I don't believe we have any bees around the complex.

I do care about our bees, without them we would have no crops.

Bee stings can really hurt. It's good you're not allergic.

Good for you, I need to walk more. Today was a beautiful day here. You are right about bees, we need to do something quick to help them out. Keep the ice on the sting.

I kept ice on the sting for awhile and I think it helped, but it's still sore.

If I had time to think I would have brushed the bee off, but I acted before I thought about what I was doing.

Even if you did not kill the bee, once they stink they die.

@RubyHawk I also try not to hurt the bees, it's different for the wasps, they are dangerous.

@LadyDuck I try not to hurt any insect. I try to stay as far away from them as I can. Those stings are painful.

Yes, I knew that but I thought since he didn't leave a stinger he might have lived, but I killed the little thing.

Are you allergic to bee stings? I've gotten stung too many times but I don't think I swelled up from any of them. One time I did get a headache but that was after several bees got me on top of my head before I realized they were above where I was standing.

No! I’m not allergic. I don’t get stung often. I hardly ever see a bee. I think we’ve used too many insecticides.

@just4him It's okay now, but I've been stung before and I don't think it was sore that long.

The bee didn't leave a stinger. I must have squashed him before he could pull away. I have a red lump where I was stung and it still hurts..

@RubyHawk I used to climb the hills in Cocle Panama where my late grandma lived. It was fun going to her home in the mountains.

@Deepizzaguy I don’t believe I could live without trees. But I’ve never had to. My grandchildren used to come walk with me but my youngest was married last weekend. I’m sure your grandmother loved you walking with her.
